Hi,

Looking for experiences and advice on an air cooler for my 2600x

I'm using the standard cooler but would like to swap it out sooner than I planned for something quieter and more effective at holding boost clocks for longer

Case will take coolers up to 170mm and would like something quiet but don't fancy spending noctua money again, maybe around £50/60

Thanks

Scythe Mugen 5 or Thermalright Macho Rev B/C would be my picks, amazing coolers that are within degrees of the 'best' Noctua's at half the price.

Thanks, which do you use out of these two? I've had a Scythe Mugan Maxx before, remember it being quite good and quiet but not the easiest to install

Hi,

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £41.01 (includes shipping: £6.02)

Have you used this and if so any comments on it? I've read good and bad on them

I use the Macho Rev B on my 2700x, absolutely stunning cooler for the money, VERY quiet at full load and silent at idle. Never see my temps go above 55c while gaming and happily sits at 65c while doing stress tests, cant recommend it enough.

Also absolute doddle to install, even get a very nice magnetized screwdriver with it!

Cant find them from a seller I trust they seem quite rare which is a shame, somewhere has a True Spirit 140 Direct in stock, sure I read they were decent on here recently but only seem to have 4 heat pipes

I can see a few stockists have the rev B but if you are not comfortable getting it from them then the True Spirit is a very good shout, i believe @doyll really recommends it.

Ok thanks, only one left in stock I might snap it up, would prefer the Macho though. No rush really I can keep looking, shame OCUK dont sell it.

How much would you expect the Macho to be?

Aro m14 is the am4 version of the macho. Seen it for around £45-50 i believe. Bit more from a popular retailer but you may prefer the security around buying from them.

I've got one on my 2700x and it's silent for general browsing and streaming etc, and probably the quietest part when everything is hot. Comes with very thick pre applied paste, which probably hurts temps a little bit i still don't see above 65 very often. Also comes with an additional tube of thermal paste, can't remember the brand but supposedly a good one.

Macho Rev. B and Macho ARO-M14 are basically same cooler with ARO-M14 having bigger base and only having AM4 mount. TRUE Spirit 140 Power is better cooling but is 171mm tall and 150mm wide so doesn't fit in all cases or clear GPU PCIe sockets on all motherboards. Machos are a few degrees warmer than the best, TRUE Spirit 140 Power is as good and a few degrees better. ;) When CPU makes lots of heat it's 6x 8mm heatpipes make a difference. ;)

Thanks doyll, so if my case fits the True Spirit then that's the better cooler but I'm slightly confused by your last sentence because it has four pipes and the Macho has more? Or am I being thick

:o

There are many different 'TRUE Spirit' coolers from 90mm to 140mm in both direct contact and enclosed heatpipes configurations. Same with Macho coolers. Got to Thermalright.de to see many of the different models. Thermalright has 3 or 4 different websites; thermalright.de, thermalright.com, therlmalright-china.com .. only one selling in UK and only one actually in UK with only a few coolers stocked, only one distributor in USA, none in Canada, etc. Best way to get Thermalright is look for alternate websites that ship to UK.
