So a few months ago I bought a Gigabyte black 1080ti from here while they were on offer. But the past week or so I've been having issues, namely epic frame rate drops to as low as 1fps though intermittently.

I've tried completely wiping the drivers and doing a fresh install but there's no difference. In fact last night I got artifacts and had to restart. Is there anything else you guys can think of to check or is it on its way out?

Are you overclocking it?

RMA it, they only have the Aorus 1080ti or the blower in stock (stay away obviously). So fingers crossed they will offer you the Aorus as a replacement

Don't take a 2080, performance whilst similar is a downgrade for vram etc ... Unless they do offer you a 1080ti performing equiv. I'd be pushing for the 2080ti in replacement

See I'm happy to RMA it but I'm just concerned they might not be able to replicate the issues I have as it happens so intermittently.

So I've just ran Furmark for over 5hrs, temps never got above 77c and settled at 75c for the duration. No hint of an error through this or any other benchmark I've put it through so far such as fire strike, heaven and some in game benchmarks. I'm going to run Memtest86 to rule out that as well.

What's strange is that none of the games I've played have hammered the card as hard as this or for as long.

Memtest run over night and no errors found, apart from battlefront 2 the stuttering etc seems to have stopped after the artefacts and subsequent reboot.

Anything else you guys can recommend to try? I want to be sure before sending it in for rma. @orbitalwalsh you got any suggestions mate?

Is it dropping frames all games or just one ?

If artifacts , would easier RMA . If your able to grab snaps of it occuring, load them up here.

Gigabyte rep @GIGA-Man should be able to lend a hand, or know of any possible issues .

Furmark is like prime , will always push GPU more then games would, just the coding they use etc . Really heats it up .

Least you've run in the caps with furmark. Handy tip for any cards that have whine as Vendors don't stress cards for long in factories. Never cures it but can cut 90% of while :) - though that's a side note

@tamzzy That got my hopes up then but I haven't installed that update.

@orbitalwash The range of games I'm playing is pretty limited at the minute, I did notice dips while playing Assassins Creed Origins a while back but it was minor and I put it down to maybe my settings being a bit to high.

It's mainly been in War Thunder, though I sometimes get drops in other games like bf5 to way below 30fps it's not been as dire as 1fps like I've had in War Thunder.

The frustrating thing is, since the one occasion I've had artefacts and had to reboot the stuttering seems to have stopped for the most part, since the other day in war thunder, the stuttering has happened once and only for a split second. The only persistent issue at the moment is in Star Wars Battlefront 2.

I'll try and get some pics if I get anymore artefacts in the meantime. I'm just stumped

@Vidar humour me. install afterburner and reduce your boost clocks (esp to the memory) and see if it helps :)
try -500mhz to the memory first, then if no artifacts, -250...and increase as you go along.

i wonder if the memory is failing, hence you getting frame drops and artifacts. but not enough to cause a hang/bsod.

Okay I'll get on that once the kids have gone to bed.

Just to be clear I'm reducing it by 500, then a further 250 or am I adding 250?

I'll give it shot,

@tamzzy okay so I've done what you said to the memory and wasn't sure what to do to put it through its paces but figured I'd start with fire stike....

Apart from it seeming like the fans ramping up more than usual and a dull buzzing noise as some of the tests ran there have been no issues so far. Checked my temps and didn't go above 75c.

What I saw was an increase in my firestrike score from -500 to +750. At +1000 I instantly got artefacts, I'm assuming that's normal though.

First feint blue space invader things, then prominent purple ones and a bsod.

What I've also noticed is when rebooting after I have to turn off discord and restart it or I just get an unresponsive black window. Not sure if that's related or not.

I'm going to run Furmark again over night and see if that's shaken anything loose as I can't think what else to do right now...

I did get some pics of the artefacts but will have to upload them tomorrow if people want to see.

Furmark gave artefacts and crashed at +750 to the memory, trying it again at +500.

Will update in the morning...

Ran at +500 for 7 hours no issues.

If you can run the memory at +500 no issues then it's unlikely to be the memory. Also if it's passed 7h of furmark, then I suspect the GPU is ok. Have you checked all the connections are tight?
