Can I build a gaming PC for £500, or should I buy secondhand?

I am new to PC gaming and have a £500 budget (excluding monitor, mouse and keyboard). I dont mind building a PC but could I do it with this budget, or would I be better off buying a second hand PC? Could I possibly buy some parts as a mix of new and second hand?

Any help/suggestions/recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Yeah you can buy new parts for around £500.. Buying used may get you a bit me of grunt for the money but warranty is fresh with new parts :)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £261.66 (includes shipping: £11.70)

Which also comes with choice of two free games

All knew, but £500 could land more powerful system second hand

To be honest, that's a very good system, new, with warranty, for £500.

Can mix and match if you want though. Like going second-hand on RAM could get you 16GB for same price if lucky. Spotted some GTX 1070s for about £130 including postage, seem to be from Russia though so who knows. Still, bay buyer is protected. Wouldn't bother for the rest. Too much second-hand can end up costly if parts fail.

That's fantastic for the price!

I like the Ryzen 5 2600, if I extend my budget what is the highest GPU it could handle?

at 1080p, then max would go is RTX 2080/Vega 7- even then you'll be wasting performance. 1080p is CPU bound and Ryzen currently cant match intel performance and clock speed. under that your all fine , going 1440p and 4k the gap between intel and amd is lessened :)

i just went for your budget!

if your able to £209 for RX 580 8GB or Vega 56 ( 3 free games)

£500 for rx 570 and ryzen 2600... and 3 free games... damn!

that bundle deal sold out a few times last week

I would get a new card, a Vega 56 would be my choice, and you get 3 games with it too, plus you can sell one copy of The Division 2 for £20 or so.
