Facebook to ban white nationalism and separatism

I didn't say they couldn't be gay. My point was it didn't make sense in the context of the show, it's a military ship and they were ON DUTY. It was blatantly wedged in so the show could virtue signal about how 'progressive' they are.

A couple of other points:
- It's disgusting and I personally don't want to see it. I stopped watching the show. So their virtue signal cost them viewers. Think what you want about that, that's my view. I have previously watched Star Trek my whole life. I looked up to how they all did useful things instead of ripping each other off for money like we do. Totally ruined it for me.
- I believe in the future there won't be homosexuality because it isn't natural and the current fad will have passed. I don't think it's even a remote possibility that what people think is 'progressive' now is still seen as progressive in a few hundred years.
.

Of course you can have an opinion but simply wow

You are aware homosexuality has been around forever and it’s only recently that it’s being accepted in some parts of the world.

You do realise this “fad” has been going on for thousands of years? Also considering it happens in all animal species I think that pretty much means it’s a naturally occurring phenomenon.

I'm not really sure, not even a huge Trek fan but it was just such an absurd example.

A show with about 100 characters has 2 that are gay? HERP DERP the gays are taking over.

Which is probably actually quite representative, when accounting for self reported and probable demographics.

Moaning about it is frankly distasteful.

It's not racist to be against white people hurr durr!

I don't care if people call me a crazy conspiracy theorist, it's pretty damn clear these days that the powers that be are trying their hardest to bring down white people any way they can. Only white people are expected to be ashamed of their skin colour and disgusted by their history.

Who are these powers that be?

And yes, you sound like a loon.

Ah the old Trek was better before it got involved in politics or equal rights arguments from some self confessed fans who seemingly are completely unaware of exactly how "progressive" the original series was and how much of a fuss it caused in some circles.

Mind you I'm not sure how this thread has veered off topic quite so much.

White Nationalism will still exist even if it's not on FB. Just because it'll be hidden doesn't mean it won't exist elsewhere on the web/dark web. Then again, what choice does FB have? If they do nothing they get branded by association.

This all ends down one road, a road where there is only one way of thinking allowed, with everyone who is not in the following hiding their true selves and informers that report them to the enforcement agencies.

Good because white nationalism isn’t thinking. Don’t even need informers, they vividly blast it for all to see right there on their pages.

There are groups who oppose forced diversity, and instead choose to be proud of their own race's heritage.
I'm concerned those groups are going to get blocked by this.
Leaving only continuing forced diversity, 'positive' discrimination, etc. Which I really don't like.
I'm getting sick of gay, trans, diverse race, characters being injected in movies/tv where it doesn't make sense. E.g. gay male officers kissing on duty in Star Trek.

Yep, forced "diversity" is in everything now it's getting ridiculous, it's so obvious and out of place it's really distracting

And yes, you sound like a loon.

Corporations, people with influence, etc.

It may sound loony to you, but we now live in times where you can say absolutely anything you like about white people and get away with it. You can despise them, discriminate against them, be racist towards them, force them to be ashamed of their heritage and history... and that is completely fine. You won't lose your job. You won't ruin your reputation. You'll be celebrated as being progressive.

Like I said in the OP, I don't care that Facebook is banning this. But it would be nice if there was some consistency in their ruling. It's very obvious that a person who isn't white will get away with saying the stuff that white people would now be banned for - and that's what annoys me. Be consistent or don't bother.

We all know we could make a 'Africa is for black people only' post and it wouldn't get removed. Why is this?

Splitter!

. . . Also considering it happens in all animal species I think that pretty much means it’s a naturally occurring phenomenon.
I believe that in some unevolved species, sex need not be consensual and infanticide has been known to occur so I guess that rape and killing another male's offspring is cool as well?

What do you mean by forced diversity?

Where I work we have straight people, gay people, black, white, French, English, Spanish, Iranian, Lithuanian, Portuguese etc.

So for me these shows/movies seem pretty representitive of the people I know. Maybe it's only distracting because you choose to insulate yourself and stick within a certain subset of people?

I totally understand that, but that mostly just applies to the original series, and now to discovery.
I was a kid in the 90s so grew up on TNG/DS9/Voyager, which were in comparison nothing to do with politics or equal rights and just about good sci-fi, that's what Star Trek is to me.

I think it was my bad, but as it's already gone there, I sort of disagree provided Partic Stewert is concidered modern Trek.
Although I think this thread could do with some lightening of the mood.
