They used a digger to steal a cash machine

I thought it was a sunroof but does look like it’s in the back part of the van!
I’m guessing the amount in the cash machine was nowhere near the cost of the damage they caused

shouldn't of

How do you live with yourself man you absolute nutter

@Maccapacca yes, van with roof chopped off.

What I'd like to know is how much cash there is in those machines, nicking a digger, presumably causing some damage to the construction site they nicked it from, nicking a van and chopping it in half, destroying a whole shop... for what? A few grand? The risk/reward here is on a whole different level.

Here in London they do it properly, £100k handbags, 20 at a time, on a moped worth no more than a few grand, at the cost of a smashed up window. These guys are idiots.

Well that's one ATM that's Dun Given' out any cash for a while.

What idiotic destruction for such a small pay off, likely to easily traceable as well.

Its happened around here more than once - think there was a gang going around for awhile attempting to blow them up, pull them out with a Land Rover as well as going a them with a digger - don't think they got much cash out of it though.

Or maybe they prefer to steal something they can spend right away instead of having to find someone to move stuff onto, which limits the amount of people involved.

Am guessing they hold a hell lot more then just a few grand

I can withdraw up to £500 out of my Local TSB cashpoint now and there seems to be loads of people taking cash out of these machines all day and night

A similar event happened in my village a few months ago.

Gang stole a JCB from a nearby farm, put it through the front of the local village store in the early hours, damaging the lived-in property above. Ripped out the cash machine, loaded it onto a Toyota Hilux, never to be seen again.

What I'd like to know is how much cash there is in those machines
The machines my former company rented held around £120k, but they were constantly in use in a very busy commuter location. I'd be surprised if the village machine held a tenth of that.

Don't these independent cash machines only hold a few quid and are stocked by the shop owner who then doesn't have to bank cash?

There was a group from Liverpool hitting ATMs all over Scotland although they seemed to focus on the North East. They were using gas to blow them open, then making their getaway in a stolen RS6 which they'd then drive onto an HGV trailer with a ramp on the back to stay out of sight. They had the whole trailer set up for fuelling the car, areas to sleep etc.
