For those who don't think PC culture is getting out of hand, for a while now 4Chan have been trolling PC culture by deliberately associating cultural norms with the far right, Recently Pepe the Frog which was subsequently picked up by mainstream media in the US and UK and then purported on as an alt right dog whistle.... the most recent 4Chan troll is the classic OK hand sign, they've only been trolling this for short while and already one of the worlds most popular video games has banned the OK hand gesture.

The world is going mad....

another wierd alt real world thread by humbug

Don't you have anything better to do than dig this sort of stuff up?

Don't let me get under your skin to the point that you expend this much time and energy on me, go and do something better, i'm sure you have something else in your life.

This stuff spreads like wildfire. The NZ mosque killer guy pulled the 'ok' in some of his post arrest pics. I think we might be losing that particular gesture to the alt right, regardless of it being completely made up in the first place.

It's incredible how much traction the q-anon stuff has got too. You see the badges and t-shirts at all the trump rallies and other right wing US gatherings.

The thing about it is it proves how incessant and ridiculous PC culture is, which is why those people at 4Chan do it, these people push buttons and idiots react, right on cue.

So the PC police run around banning everything at 4Chan trolls whim.

You do know symbols have no inherent meaning, right? They're given meaning by the people who use them, that's not PC gone mad it's people using symbols to mean something others find offensive.

I love the OP trolling SC with a thread about trolls. And this is not SC material. Ideally it's thread-lock material, or at best, GD.

That's the point, which Humbug has missed. It has nothing to do with PC; fascists are purposefully co-opting these icons and symbols in order to insert themselves into mainstream culture.

By taking over social norms? Whats your angle on that? that if they claim social norms society would be more accepting? seems a contorted argument to me.

Its 4Chan who are behind all this, you know who 4Chan are? they create memes all day, they are pretty clear themselves that what they are doing is trolling the outraged hard left by flooding social media with fake far right symbolism connected to social norms or other mundane everyday stuff like cartoon characters and then watch the outraged hard left react in a blind panic trying to bang them all down like whack-a-mole.

It is funny, yes i find it highly amusing.
And also a little bewildering, i mean, they are allowing "the far right" to control what is a social norm, this instead of saying #### #### your not having that they get the proverbial authoritarian ban hammer out and start lashing out with it, which is exactly what 4Chan want.

I find it more amusing that you don't seem to understand, just like those on 4Chan apparently, that using everyday symbols and imbuing them with far-right meanings on purpose is not trolling, it's not causing knee-jerk reactions, and it's not causing outrage or blind panic.

Saying so is like saying the swastika and toothbrush moustache were the Nazis attempt at trolling, that they only used them to cause knee-jerk reactions, blind panic and outrage, to say so would be missing the point by so much that you can't even see the point anymore, it's not the symbols themselves that people are objecting to it's the meaning that's been imbued into them.

The swastika really was a symbol of evil. it was not the same as the Hindu symbol of peace

It suits the far left because they can take perfectly normal social situations and do their scaremongering routine over the rise of far right white supremacism to scare people against supporting nationalism and love of country over open borders, anti-nation state globalism.
