Parking fine dispute amongst friends

DO NOT OPEN IT.
if you don't read it they can't fine you, a bloke told me that the other week when I asked him why he hadn't taken his council issued fine off his windscreen.

I'm reminded of that animal from Hitchiker's...the ravenous bugblatter beast of Traal? The one that you are safe from if you wrap your towel around your eyes because it thinks that if you can't see it then it can't see you and so nothing is there.

If that was true, anyone could park anywhere at any time without any possibility of being fined because they could just throw the notice in a bin without opening it. I think that only works if you have diplomatic immunity.

huh you talk in riddles

Anyway your friend is a clown, suck it up tell him. :)

It depends on the circumstances. If the driver was doing the passenger a favour and would not have been driving otherwise, then the passenger should pay half. But if the driver would have been going there even without the passenger then he should not expect the passenger to chip in. He was the driver and he parked there.

However, as the driver I personally would assume responsibility and pay it. As the passenger I would also automatically offer to pay half.

Are they not very good friends or something. What if the passenger was a child would they still have to pay half? Does he calculate how much tax, mot and insurance he owes him as well for the lift?

At what point do you draw the ? What other charges are you going to send any passengers? Puncture cough up mate have a smash halves on the excess? Just stupid if you park like a idiot accept the consequences and pay up.

If i am going somewhere i would never charge friends fuel parking or anything as i am going to pay it anyway.

personally, if I was the driver I probably would have made sure it was ok to park in the first place as i'm pretty OCD about that sort of thing. regardless, it wouldn't have even crossed my mind to "demand" that the passenger pays half. even if they offered, I probably wouldn't accept. giving someone a lift to a gig etc i'd probably accept them chipping in for petrol, but that's about it.

And insurance and fuel for the driver ? Actually, why doesn’t he also pay for car ?

That would be silly. He should pay only the costs of insurance, depreciation and wear and tear for the journey. Plus fuel, of course. Estimates would be adequate. Oh, and a chauffeur's wages for the relevant amount of time. And compensation for the increased radiation exposure that the driver will incur by being close to a person for the duration of the journey. Obviously.
:)

I drove through a bus lane on a friend's instructions not too long ago. He may correct me, but I'm pretty sure that I just paid the fine. It's my responsibility after all. He definitely offered to pay at least half, if not all of it.

Down to the driver unless the passenger advised the driver to park in that location. A good mate would still offer to pay towards the fine as the driver was doing them a favour.

What if you were going to an event such as a birthday for a friend and got a ticket would you ask them to cough up as you were only there because of their birthday so it would be partially their fault you got a ticket right even though they were no where near the car?

Maybe I’m missing something here, or reacting too quick, but if my passenger said, “Take the left lane and keep going”, think that it would be 100% down to me to notice the BUSES & TAXIS ONLY sign, and not just blithely sail into it.
Same with parking, if my passenger said, “I’ve checked the signs, you’re okay to park here”, I wouldn’t care what he thought, I’d read the signs myself.

Maybe. It's this section that's about 5 metres long so maybe not so easy to notice. It was late a night and it basically didn't occur to me.

We've said it before when parking somewhere this could potentially happen, that everyone in the car would split it.
