With how prices are atm it won't surprise me. It's partly Nvidia's fault. £1500 for a 2080Ti and online etailers gouging. I do believe this will happen. PC market is super greedy on hardware. While I love my PC, it's getting harder to keep up. I'm thinking of getting a PS5 and just build a SFF PC just for browsing and media and go to consoles for gaming. I knew the greed on PC components would be it's downfall.

And that means Nvidia kill off their own business, because they have no real presence on consoles.

But consoles are still to restrictive, you can't do things like modding games etc.

Wouldn't surprise me either. Components are just too expensive nowadays and I can see graphical differences between PC and PS5 as extremely negligible for the price difference. The PS5 is being heavily rumoured to blow out between 11-14 teraflops, which puts it near 2080Ti levels for probably half the price.

I will only use my PC for strategy games from now on. The situation could be salvaged, but it's gonna need the likes of Nvidia to seriously re-evaluate their pricing strategy. Flagship cards should be £6-700 at the absolute max.

I left my PC behind for gaming, as I found myself with less and less time for it, I couldn't justify throwing money at it all the time, couldn't be bothered with the configuration of everything anymore, constant driver updates, patches etc.

Looked at a build recently with a friend and the costs only seem to have increased in recent years, so I currently have zero temptation to go back to it.

I do hope there is a massive shake up in the PC component market. It's just ludicrous and not worth it imo. Time for the big players, that have been robbing people blind over the years, to be brought down quite a few pegs or ten.

Anyone with any sense did so a few years ago, one of the main things PC's have had going for them historically was that consoles have always lagged behind PC's graphically but these days consoles are reaching 4K as standard and you can probably buy a 4k TV cheaper than a 4K monitor.

Add to that the fact that PC's have mostly gone all digital so you can't physically own the game and graphics cards are stupidly expensive it's a no brainer. Next gen consoles will have Ryzen CPU's so frame-rate should receive a big boost too, it's safe to say current gen have toy CPU's by comparison to Ryzen architecture but PS4 Pro/Xbox One X still compare well to high end PC's due to developers optimising properly for the hardware.

Starting to consider the status of my main rig. I will be moving in with my fiance in a few months and some of the places we have seen don't really have the space for a separate main rig.

With consoles catching up fast, prices becoming a joke - I do wonder if I need this machine in a few years time. Plus with a Ryzen powered HTPC, I only need to pop in a 570 and I should be good for 1080p gaming.

I beleive Microsoft were flirtying with keyboard and mouse support for xBox.

If this was the case I might jump ship but I just hate game pads for anything 3D other than driving games.

Majority of my gaming time is sim racing so for the foreseeable future I will continue on PC. I do agree about the component prices going insane though, Nvidia take the **** with their prices.

People say it's expensive.

But I'm currently running a fairly mid spec pc (it'll play anything, and most at high at 1440p) 1600, Vega 56 and it cost me 600~. Yes it's still expensive. But I think a lot of the problem is people want high spec for a LOT less. Or want Nvidia etc.

Considering it's 410 for a PS4 pro with a game (the PC came with 3, at higher value) it's really not that much more and it does a hell of a lot more than a PS4. More games, bigger modding scene, web browsing, better media playback.

Tried playing a 265/266 codec on a PS4? Doesn't work.

So yes, it's really not as bad as people make out. IMO.

Not for me. Most of the PC games I play wouldn't have decent controls on a console - FPS and RPG's mainly. I do have a Switch as well so best of both worlds :)

Does PC gaming even make up a large percentage of nVidia's revenue any more though?

That's because you are used to a Mouse and keyboard, believe me you will adapt to controllers, and as all your opponents on console also tend to be playing on controllers, it does level the playing field somewhat.

That rig won’t suffice for 60FPS 4K though. The PS5 will.

I rarely play games these days but I will always have a fast PC, and a GPU that can at least game a bit on the side.

Flagship gaming stuff is in my past though

The PC will always destroy whatever console comes along. Consoles have to be made to be affordable so they can never compete in terms of graphics and frame rates.

When will it simply be called ‘gaming’? The distinction is rather pointless nowadays.

Also I’m pretty sure most of these numbers are low-medium spec pc owners who see the climb to top spec insurmountable vs the future consoles, increasingly annoying profiteering, dying communities and what not as no longer different on the pc.

I really don’t find this surprising, everything is a gimmick now.
