I have had lots of great advice from these forums and now intend to take the plunge and do my own build. I have basically done most things ie replace a cpu , install a GPU, install a new PSU but have not done a new build from scratch.

any tips would be appreciated - its going to be a ryzen build.
do modern mother boards still have headers you need to mess about with

also can i test a build before i put the GPU and OS onto it.
i basically want to reuse my existing windows 10 pro licence. Its a standalone upgrade i had from owning windows 10 ultimate cd i bought many moons ago.

it would be good to know the build is working before transferring over the OS

are there any useful guides out there that people have used to start and finish a build.

@sunshinewelly - probably best yous stick to the one thread - Clicky - you'll get all the advice you need within your spec thread. Things tend to get a bit confusing if you have multiple threads about the same build.

You need to decide on size/form factor of the case/motherboard first - and once you've got a spec list you're happy with we can discuss build testing/techniques/links and window install.

We need to establish what you're main criteria for the build is first - aesthetics/size/use/relative silence etc... before we move on.

definitely going with the NZXT H500 case or similar
will use the ryzen 2700 i picked up.

i currently have an anteck 650 psu (but its a bronze version) - its around 6 years old. Not sure whether to reuse that or buy a new one

the system will be used mainly for gaming and movie watching on my TV in livingroom

i hopefully can resuse my windows license
