Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Hi

Im just trying to setup my Asus router after a reset, have done it before after a firmware update but I forget a setting at the start of the setup wizard, I get a choice of static, dynamic and pppoe as per my internet service provider.

Does anyone know which one I should select, my SH3 is in modem mode, I pretty sure its dynamic but if someone can confirm?

Thanks

Anyone on the SH3 still experiencing problems with the Puma chip?

I'm at the end of contract and ready to renegotiate. Last time I did I was told by an utter cretin at VM CS that the Puma bug was not applicable in modem mode, so upgraded to 350 but, as says he was a cretin and I had a fight getting back to 200 on the SH2 as the Puma chip still went into diagnostic/maintenance even in modem mode. Packet loss and latency abounded.

From my experience it is vastly improved both for gaming and uploading (which I do a lot of). From my understanding it is still not perfect as they used a work around to mitigate the short comings of the Puma chipset by offloading some of the work to another chip that was not originally designed to do it. Though for me I don't have the problems I used to before the firmware updates.

What a load of junk vm is, worst WiFi ever, 350 broadband lucky if I get half of that now after getting 380 at the start of my contract then falls away midterm, the amount of downtime they have is diabolical.

I'm by no means defending VM but as with all ISPs if you settle for the provided router's WiFi then don't expect it to be great in the first place.

So guys it seems my internet connection is running pretty slow. In Nottingham I used to get 385/20 consistently. In Bham I seem to be getting this (only device connected to the SH3 - wired / wifi disabled)

I have a VM engineer coming today (hopefully) to connect up another tivo box, worth mentioning to them? Anything they can do to increase my download speeds?

I use modem mode on SH3 and always have done, so can't say for certain but I have played online games such as BFV without problems, if the issue is still there its not effecting me one bit, there has been a 2-3 firmware updates since this issue was raised and its hardly talked about, if at all on the VM forums anymore, so whatever the fixes they have issued in firmwares seems to have improved it to go as far as say its fixed.

So VM has been...he agrees 300 mbps is not good enough and left a message with their technical team. Also the TiVo ?HITS are down so that isn’t working either!

Oh and despite him asking them to upgrade me to 500 as per the VVip package...I’m still running at 300 :(

Yet the config of the SH3 seems to have changed...

Is it possible to have two routers in the house supplied by virgin?

One from the access point downstairs and one fed from the point upstairs?
