No, we record almost everything we want to watch, then zip through the commercials.
I’ll watch out for it, presumably someone looking like a dork in denim shorts, but maybe it suits the advertiser to have a dork in denim shorts in the commercial for his product.
I don’t think that I look like Joe Cool in my denim shorts, but I’m happy to wear them, and Mme. Jean-F is happy to sit at a beach bar with me when I wear them, and she’s somewhat of a fashion guru, (soi-disant).

website does not seem to say much about what the garments are made of (let alone where they are made) but the prices seem cheap

I'm in the same situation as you and incidentally wearing the above shorts for that reason. They are short shorts, breathable, have zips pockets, and best of all, elastic waist! So comfortable to wear however they do not look smart at all. I continue my search every day in the hope of one day finding a pair of casual shorts that have good features.

Not a fan of the knee length, no zip, buttoned! Thick shorts.

Yes, you're right though, getting fitter and stronger has no gain in life or sport. I proper wasted a lot of time in my youth :(
 
Maybe look at the various outdoor hiking shops. They often tend to make stretchy shorts with load of pockets and zips.
