I was more excited by the potential gameplay implications of the ray tracing cores and the extra tech in the RTX cards which obviously hasn't happened.
I own a 2080 but honestly I'm very very bored of chasing the graphics card specs without evolutions in gameplay. I feel like we're really stagnating in game design which is sad. I was hoping to see way more advanced AI in games or something.
Its probably why I now prefer VR games where possible, I just feel like they're innovating a little more there.
I think people hating on the 2080 or 2080ti for being able to raytrace to a decent degree at high resolutions is just silly. Yes, there is a premium for a feature which will come to the masses in a couple of years, just like there is with all new tech. If you don't see the value in it, don't buy it.
As much as we all hate on Nvidia for price gouging, AMD are just consistently arriving too late to the party with cards which aren't pushing Nvidia to drop prices at all. If anything, they want their slice of the pie too from the users who are willing to wait for a card with the AMD badge on it. We're getting rinsed from both sides here and until the games consoles catch up with the PS5/Scarlet, I think thats how it'll be.
