GAME agrees £52m takeover by Mike Ashley's Sports Direct

Game went downhill when they started charging £15 more for new games compared to other stores. And £10 for pre owned games that you can buy new from online stores.

I don't use Game personally i was never a fan of the way they work and rip people off but i dont want to see people losing there jobs either.

we don't need them any more. cex does trade ins. plus ebay / gumtree.

plus online and supermarkets always cheaper.

no need for specialist stores these days

Might not need them but I do enjoy going to specialist stores like Game and HMV but you know something is fundamentally wrong when you go into game and the second hand games are priced higher than new version.

Having worked in retail it's not specialist stores that's dieing it's the Highstreets.
 
I used to love going into game as a kid looking at all the amiga and dos games on the shelves. Shame they did not move with the times.
 
So Games Direct then? Not sure how he thinks he's going to resurrect the slumping market for bricks and mortar gaming but I guess time will tell.
 
Used to be a regular in the 90's used to buy one game then complete it in a week take it back and swap it for another thanks to trading laws. must have had 30-40 new games off them before they caught on.
 
He probably shut the stores which are not doing well, turn them into mini Sports Direct stores while keeping the staffs pay at a bare minimum.

Filling up his back pockets with more money.

No he will shut every store he cannot buy the property of.

He is smart as he realises rent as well as rates are the killer blow.

If he owns the property there is no rent.

If any store cannot be turned around he will close it.

He isnt a magician he cannot stop the fact people aren't buying on the street any more.

So he has to cut costs to stay alive.
 
That's a shame I always enjoyed going in game even if it was just to browse it had a certain atmosphere which I always liked hope they keep the shops open near me

Think I played about half the n64 and ps2 catalogue with that one! Helped there were two in mk so you would switch between them every so often to keep the trades going
 
If you had a decent amount of trade-in credit at Game, what would you buy to turn that back into cash efficiently? I wonder if they let you buy gift cards with trade-in credit? Then I could exchange them online.

I was planning to wait for the next-gen consoles, but now I'm not so sure.
