The price of the 2080 SUPER is within my range, as it's got to be what... £650?

The only problem is, what's it got to offer at 3440*1440 that my 1080ti doesn't already provide?
 
The original 20XX series cards have been slowly coming down in price, then the super cards were announced, so the original cards were due to drop in price when the super cards came out. So now the original cards have gone back up to the original price, so they can be reduced back down to what they were 2 weeks ago :D. How stupid do these retailers think we are ?

People keep buying... so draw your own conclusions!

If more people kept their wallets closed prices would be much lower!

You mean £699 UK is 1:1 dollar to pound always and you will be lucky for 25%.
 
12nm to 7nm EUV offers 50% perf/watt boost and is more efficient than TSMC 7nm - assuming the rumour Nvidia is using Samsung is true.

So just the drop in process size alone is going to offer a bigger performance boost than current gen

I don’t know if we’ll see 900 series to pascal 1000 performance which was nearly 100% performance boost but it will be much more than the 30% we got this gen.

I’m personally estimating anywhere from 50% to 80% generation boost from RTX2000 to RTX3000

And when you factor into that, that lots of people still have a 1080 or 1080ti and haven't moved to RTX yet - it will be a massive upgrade for them. 1080 to 3080 or 1080ti to 3080ti should be more than double the performance boost

And that is the question everyone should always ask before upgrading. If you are not interested in RTX right now (only a handful of games and even then likely not playable at your Res) I would say not a lot.
Wait till next generation imo then there will be more games supporting ray tracing. Even then tho for non rtx stuff I imagine a 1080ti will be ok till ps5 and next box come out . Maybe then the bar will be raised?

Indeed, upgrading from a 1070 is expensive whichever route you take. By that I'm referring to buying new. Considering a GPU is usually the most expensive component they seem to fail more than any other part.
