AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

The deciding factor for me as to whether to purchase the 3600 is seen in the below graph, AMD rocking it in GTA 5 at 720p.

Think you'll find for many of us on 1440p or higher res (im on 3440px1440p) that theres going to be almost zero difference between the 9900k and the new Zen2 stuff in most games, except the price and the fact anything making use of as many cores as possible is going to be better on the newer AMD Stuff.

So yeah Intel retains its single threaded lead for now by minimal margins at 1080p and almost negligible at any res above that :)

Of course most current Intel owners can feel smug coming in here with their purchase, much like Zen2 owners will feel smug when / If more games come along that tax the core counts of CPU's, as those 9700k's will be the first Intel chips to feel it :)

End of the day were all enthusiasts, AMD has done a massive service to the CPU industry, competition is good for us all.

I'm at 1440p/165Hz, today I can buy Aorus Pro and 9700k for 500£ and have the best performance available.

Or buy 3700X and a B450 and save a little bit to have slightly inferior performance, hoping things will change in the future.

All I'm saying is that this is not an obvious choice (In my opinion).

Would love to see how the 3900x performs under water, if it gives some better thermal headroom for OC or PBO?
Ill test it out when it comes on my water and no power limits :) As shown I'm ok with cpu taking 230w to cool it sub 75c

I'd love to know the selling point for X570 at this point.

Perhaps more stable PBO for the 3950X but otherwise these chips don't have OC headroom to warrant the extensive VRM setup.

If you want PCIE4.0 for storage then great. Otherwise you're paying a silly premium for an extra source of noise :D

selling point for my mate was that he will drop 3600 for 4900 wyhen Zen3 comes out. Basically better VRM section 210 is still less than C7H was

a lot depends on your financial situation, upgrade cycle, personal attitude towards price per performance etc...

Sure if you want the absolute best top FPS gaming right today you probably go buy a 9700K off Silicon Lottery and the best 2080ti money can buy, fastest ram, fastest drives etc, but these come at a cost, so unless your ok with paying well over the odds, then you have to compromise somewhere. Most people set a budget and work whats the best within that budget, here is where AMD will pick up a lot of winners, the cash saved by buying a 3600 or 3600x or even the 3700x can be put towards a better gpu, looks like the x570 motherboards might not actually offer much more than a b450 for the chips as they are apparently not the greatest overclockers, so money saved there as well unless your intent on buying a PCIE4 GPU etc etc..

What im getting at is the majority of users right now looking to upgrade probably have a) a budget in mind and b) a lifetime cycle in mind for their hardware, AMD are offering a lot more than Intel right now with those 2 things taken into consideration.

Anyone Pre-ordered a GEN4 M.2?

Passed here. Considering the lack of real world benefit versus current Gen 3 offerings and reported high temps on both the x570 chipset AND the NVME drive itself I'm not sure it's worthwhile, certainly not when you factor in nearly double the cost also.

For now I'm going to throw a 480GB Corsiar MP510 in for £70 and monitor the Gen 4 NVME landscape as it matures/we know more about real world benefits.

I’m planning on doing more streaming, editing and what not so aye either the 3900 or 3950 seem a no brainier. Might try and hold out for the new TR as well, see what they do with that.

New TR would be a real beast. No ETA on it sadly, and I think with them focusing on Epyc, it might not be out until next year.

Cheers for the links earlier @Gibbo, 3600 ordered so ready to go now.

The last CPU I bought myself was the 4670k for £186 from here (the Phenom x6 I’m using at the moment is a stopgap after killing my i5) so it’s nice to be able to pay the same amount for a decent uplift in performance.
