drivers in 2019?.

As you might know I'm getting a new system this week and hopefully been built and tested as I'm writing this lol. In 2019 as seen as windows 10 try and get the best drivers for everything is there any reason to install mobo drivers on a new PC?.

I asked in the pre sales and they said Yes you'll need to install the latest drivers when you receive the machine, however Windows update should pull the latest ones for you anyway.

So what is your view in 2019 about drivers. If working dont bother and just install from windows update apart from graphic card driver obviously?.

Just install windows 10, get all of the windows updates, which include drivers and see if there is anything missing. If there is just download them from the manufactures website for your device.

Windows update doesn't always get the latest drivers or puts a cut down version of the software on. Prime example is Nvidia drivers will always be several versions behind.

You no it makes sense to visit the manufacturer of your hardware and download the latest drivers for your OS from there. This is import and will help ensure your PC runs as smoothly as possible.

Always install the motherboard manufacturers provided drivers (since it's unlikely that a driver disc would be provided nowadays) as those downloaded through microsoft update are either out of date or are just generic microsoft drivers and might cause issues like with the generic SATA drivers which have caused several systems to go unresponsive for no reason.

Yet in 15 years I haven't had a single issue with Microsoft drivers from their update catalog.

Always get drivers from the manufacturer site, MS ones are not always the most optimised - they are they to get the device working not perform at its fullest.

Microsoft has released the latest update before resolving a number of outstanding issues. But at least they now provide a more centralized location for getting update information. The home page (dashboard) can be found here and the specific page for the latest update can be found here.
