Major Power Outage

Just goes to show how much we rely of these essential services which we take for granted.
With funding and returns on investments being squeezed by Ofgem, so consumers can save £25 a year on bills, the situation isn’t going to improve any time soon.

Is it so much to ask that a company might focus on providing a good service before letting profiteers gobble it up?

Utilities we need to operate the economy are always going to be kept in line.

Proffiters?

You know the budget given by ofgem is monitored to high heaven, on the gas side grid had to do a full asset list, down to mcbs in the distribution boards so we could get a budget.

The energy transmission is actually quite low on the profit side. Hence look at the share prices

My Mother has been sat on a train in Newcastle Station for over an hour now. Seems like no trains are going in or out.

Went off in a lot of places on the Wirral too. Think it's back on now but there was a huge queue getting out of Tesco in Bidston Moss so I've missed out on my ready meal for one :p

Ellesmere Port and Little & Great Sutton were definitely out. I found power was ok at the A41 Backford lights heading towards Chester as I was following the ambulance containing my wife (all ok now, but a stressful late afternoon !)

anyone had issues with pc not working especally with frame rates locking at 60fps, got back around 6pm from work and before the power cut my pc would hit over 100fps, but after the power loss my pc would sit at 60fps and would go no higher even if i disabled vsync.
i did resolve the issue by re installing gpu drivers, but now my rgb on my mobo and gpu arnt working at startup, i have to manually start aura to turn it on, but even then in games i play the rgb goes out and then flashes on for a few serconds durning gaming.

based in shropshire and around 5pm the power dropped out for around 5mins then again around 5:10pm for another couple of mins

very annoying!

This is only the 2nd UK power outage due to aset failure in 35+ years. Reliability has been above 99% during that term.

Clock alarm set, crossing everything the blackout hits Southampton overnight and I miss my early morning start.

Edit: Dang, power stayed on. :/

I live on the outskirts of Stafford, connected to the same circuit as the nearby villages (Haughton, Gnosall etc). We get numerous power cuts throughout the year, all seasons. We weren't affected tonight weirdly enough though.

My house was right on the edge of a power cut zone. All the lights were out and alarms going off right untill the last 800 meter of my journey. :O

I was going to say, was chatting with friends early about how reliable the power is in general. Cracking service to be honest. Bit weird to overreact to something like that.

Love the press overreaction and also the 'watchdogs demand answers'. Yeah I bet the suits do, but give the real men and women who make this thing tick a chance to work it out !!

There's always a fear of a potentially new trend however. Power cuts were quite common in the 60's and early 70's I think, improving after we joined the EU. Hmmmmm.
99% reliability has been very good

Industry experts said that a gas-fired power station at Little Barford, Bedfordshire, failed at 16.58, followed two minutes later by the Hornsea offshore wind farm disconnecting from the grid.

I think an investigation is certainly called for.
Just to make sure no subterfuge was involved.
