hi I bought the x470 taichi as its on sale for £180 and I dont want to deal with mid-lower end x570 boards + fan for £210+

What would be better for overclocking (nothing too major).
4x8 3200 kit BLS4K8G4D32AESBK
Or
2x16 3200 kit BLS2K16G4D32AESB

Cpu will be 3700x

The 4x8 3200 kit is on the qvl but I'm unsure if that matters too much on zen2

Depends on price and if you will likely need more than 16gb if your not just gaming or not gaming at all and doing heavy workload in design etc.

Some say fill all slots, some say leave the spare(s) for future upgrades.

I've got this for my 3700x
Clocked at 3600c16 daily running no issues. Can hit 3733c16 with minimal effort too but I didn't like the extra voltage for minimal extra performance...
(Of course YMMV)

I ended up just going for 2x8 sticks.

do you think I'll be able to get to 3600 on the asrock x470 taichi board? The board won't hold me back will it?

oh and did I make the right decision going for this ram over the Corsair lpx 2x8 sticks?

it shouldn't

i'd say so :p

Thank you. I feel as though since I just game with light multitasking I shouldn't overspend on 32gb.

Are you able to give me some voltage and basic timings for 3600?

I'll obviously validate any overclocks myself.

Oh and is it worth changing the sub timings too?

Mine was a quick and dirty overclock - I care more about playing games than getting 110% from my hardware. With that disclaimer out of the way...
1) enable xmp/docp
2) set soc voltage to 1.1v
3) set memory voltage to 1.4v
4) set vtt to 0.7v
5) set memory multi to 36x
6) set infinity fabric to 1800
7) profit???

I left everything else at auto ;)

Yeah I'm the same lol. Kinda Wana put in some numbers before bed and let memtest run over night :p.

Seen that the 2nd timing is normally higher when overclocking on these sticks but we'll see.

16-18 (this one)-18--36
