Beggers in Leeds

Every time you say something like that, we should remember the thread a few years ago where you basically said something like immigrants should all be welcomed and given places to live.

And everybody said to you, "Why don't you open your doors and take one in." And you were like, "Nah thanks, I don't want to."

I don't think I've said any of that? Are you sure I wasn't talking about refugees and not immigrants?

Besides, being willing to support refugees through council/government services via the taxes I pay is vastly different than housing one yourself (I don't have the space for one) so that's a bit of a straw man argument isn't it?

You really haven’t been round long enough have you? In the old days we had mods opening threads like “why do pakis smell so much?” And “Can we not just send all the darkies back home?” It was very very right wing back then, one of the most right wing in the country.

In fact lots of people refused to shop at ocuk because of the forums.

Nowadays it’s tamed down a lot . Thank god.

Is this true? It does explain a bit about the general feel of the place from time to time in GD.

I corrected my post well before you posted your response....

Maybe quote the actual figures that were displayed in the post on show (and well before) when you reply in future?

If there were 1048 EU national rough sleepers in autumn of 2018 and 714 in Autumn of 2016 then the calculation to work out the percentage increase in EU national rough sleepers from autumn 2016 to 2018 is as follows...

1048 - 714= 334 more EU national rough sleepers in Autumn 2018 vs 2016

(334 divided by 714) x 100 gives you the percentage increase from Autumn 2016 to 2018 which is 46.78% (rounded to two decimal places) which is the figure I used to say 'over 46%' in my post

This figure was shown well before you posted your reply as can be seen by anyone viewing the forum.
not my fault you ballsed it up first time round. Every single point i've made still stands. You ignored the Tory spending stuff in my penultimate post as well. So just get over it, you're wrong.

Oxford has quite afew but has always been the case, you get used to seeing the regulars some of them are pretty nice. It makes its easier to spot the iffy looking ones or the fakers.

I'm gonna need someone else to corroborate this. I don't see why OcUK as a business would allow its forum to be like that.

A quick google would have given you some answers

https://forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/293904/all-people-from-pakistan-smell

I would link you to several other google results relating to the far right stuff but suspect my post wouldn't last long before it got taking down,

The current dons like to put that period of the forums behind them now and I don;t blame them as its a different place now.

I was taking the **** out of greebos assertion that this forum is ‘very far right’ when all recent polls on this forum suggest otherwise. And the exit poll at the 2017 election was 2:1 labour:Tory so I think plenty of people on this forum can face voting labour because they have done.

No I said that it still had that air and there are plenty of people still on here from that time and certainly the most prominent of posters do tend to more be the Tory ones rather than the Labour ones,.

I bet if you took a poll on the people commenting on this thread it wouldnt come out 2:1 to labour.

There's no evidence to suggest this. Your only evidence to suggest this place was "very hard line tory" was to "look in the pension and benefits thread". When it's pretty clear that wealth doesn't equate to voting intention that strongly these days.

The evidence that is available suggests that this forum has far more labour supporters (or non-tory supporters) than tory.

Just "look inside the pension and benefits thread" (implying there are a lot of affluent people on here) isn't evidence that this forum is tory. It may be that your prejudiced into believing that anyone who is wealthy votes tory. And that's a pretty common trope, despite the fact Labour is the home these days of middle class people.

No it wasnt. it was nothing to do with affluent it was more to do with the viewpoints put across on pensions and benefits.,

And i see more posts lambasting JC than I ever see having a go at the Tories and thats even in SC so blows your theory out of the water that SC is just full of lefties. If it is they are a very rare breed of none labour voting lefties.

Really? Look in Brexit/Conservative/BoJo thread, 80% is bashing tories or BoJo.

I never said SC is full of lefties either?

What would be good is a survey on the forum. Am I allowed to do one?

It certainly is possible in a big city like London, for example beggars on trains seem to get at donation from at least one person in the carriage more times than not and they’re into the next carriage by the time they get to the next station.

Similarly a prime spot near a tourist area, on a bridge or outside a station could earn a decent wedge. Not to mention it is cash in hand/unlikely to be declared.

The option is there though given the right location or putting in the time on trains, it isn’t just Eastern European gangs - they certainly have regular pitches but there are plenty of prolific British beggars too in specific parts of central London and on certain train lines.

I got on a Piccadilly Line train around 10.00 a.m. at Green Park a few years back, en route to Heathrow.
Somewhere around Hammersmith, a waif like girl came into the compartment, and went into her spiel, “Sorry to disturb you kind people, but blah blah blah.”
I went into 1000 yard stare mode, and hoped that she’d read it as “keep going, I’ve heard it all”, thankfully she did.
She then stopped in front of a guy about my age, nose buried in a paper, and said, “Sir, I haven’t eaten for two days”, he looked up, and said, “force yourself love!”

One of my favourite memories of my dad when I was tenish years old. After a trip to London zoo we are making our way back across town, home. A homeless guy asks my dad, "Money for a cup of tea guv?" Which dad replied "no thanks I've just drank one."
I thought it was a work of pure genius.

Sorru somebody did mention that I was just used to being in SC where its full of lefties!

Or people just weren't voting, hence the political wilderness, leaving the results skewed to Labour. (As mentioned above you see a lot of posts bashing JC while that could still be people from the left who just don't like him it almost certainly is more than that).

Regardless, the only evidence that we have that isn't just conjecture points towards more people voting labour.

I've made an ocuk survey for gd, and I'm asking in the content discussion forum if it would be permitted. And if so I'll do one every year so we can see the trends in GD over time.

Good idea but could be skewed atm.A Lot of people might be embarressed to say they are Tory with the shambles going on. I have being Tory all my life but I wouldnt vote for them tomorrow so not sure where that leaves me. Unknown?
