Every direct flight available now is from Virgin at 9k minimum.. was nowhere near that prior to yesterday, so that tells me that they are taking advantage of people's misfortune and ramping up the prices which makes Virgin a bunch of knob heads.

Fortunately for me I see flights from London now for £1500 but they are not direct, just waiting on credit card company for refund and I could actually save some cash out of this mess.

Best thing to do is wait until the dust settles, it might come back down to normal once the initial wave of re-bookings has gone through if you don't HAVE to book now.

Supply & demand. Most airlines and holidays get more expensive as they get filled up. I used to book weekend aways for a bunch of lads to eastern european cities. Book as soon as the flight becomes available and you got seats for £20 return (Best we ever got was £1.99 return to Estonia) .

One occasion had me puzzled once though. Seats were coming up as £19.99 but when i tried top book 6 seats the price came out over £200. I kept adjusting the number of seats and there was only one two left at £19.99 and the others were £39.99.
 
Shame, i used they to go to the Maldives and they were great. The fact it was a direct flight from Manchester rather than a change at Dubai as per most other providers was a huge bonus!
 
On a much lower scale to the employees and holidaymakers, my OH paid for a hotel and ticket package from TC for her son and Father in Law to see Liverpool/Saltzburg on 2 Oct
We have the hotel voucher and are trying to get hold of the hotel to see if they will honour it, but the stadium tickets are only issued 5 days before by LFC, so don't know where we stand with that
Bit of a bummer that it's the FIL's 70th and his flight from Belfast was >£300

Whilst true, you’ve got to be pretty stupid to book a holiday from Thomas Cook in the last 48 hours. There were a couple on the radio this morning who had and were subsequently upset. The mind boggles.

I'm not sure that's ever actually been proven, the whole cookies stuff.
 
This defies logic to me that anyone on here is mad enough to use a travel agent. I don't think I've used a travel agent in my entire adult life, certainly not Thomas Crook. It's often far cheaper and more flexible to do it yourself.

I've certainly found it makes a difference. 6 months ago, I was booking flights to Australia with QF and there was a huge different (£400-£500) between the flights when I looked in Firefox vs Chrome.

There was a slight difference when i tested it, I tried to look for the screenshot that i took at the time on IMGUR but i upload so many its hard to find lol

You can always try it for yourself, look up a destination, go to Skyscanner and check it, do it again later and over the next couple of days, note down all the prices.

Then after a few days you do the same in incognito mode.

And they should deliver the results they are paid loads for. Didnt he get a £2m bonus in recent years despite them still being in trouble?

Point is the chief executives have been paid £30 between the 4 of them over the last 5 years and this is the result. Shocking. Tbh

Most results from tests come back as no change in prices between browsers and incognito.

However, apple users are always offered more expensive holiday/hotel/flight prices first on searches as "they spend 30% more" on their holidays than the rest of us.

And changing your country via VPN gives you cheaper prices with the same airline. We used to do this trick when flying to eastern Europe. Was quite often cheaper to log in via the Polish site than the UK site for flights. Supply & demand.
 
Last time I used Thomas Cook would have been the second time I went to Japan in 2010. We actually ended up stuck out there for a few extra days due to the Icelandic volcano shutting down European airspace. The tour manager was excellent and I couldn't fault how everything was handled in anyway. In fact the experience gained in that trip probably helped a lot in getting confidence for travelling there again self organised after that
