AMD Vega 64 £200

Hi all,

I have the opportunity to buy a Vega 64 reference for £200 - it'll be a 60 mile commute there though in my golf diesel car it won't drink too much fuel.

Is this a good buy? The last AMD card I had was a 5770... so yea some time ago!

Those who have followed some of my posts will notice I've had several 1080 Ti's, Titan Xp, 1080 and several 980 Ti's all of which I've sold for profit/because I don't game as much anymore. With black Friday coming up I'm thinking of holding back for the 5700xt but part of me wants to spend as little as possible as when the new big cards come out next year I probably will bite and grab one.

The reference 980 Ti got too hot and loud for me, will this be the same with the Vega card if I undervolt it? Is it actually a good buy for £200? Might try and get him down to £180 if possible....
 
If it helps, my bro is running his 5700xt undervolted at 30% fan speed with it hitting 45c. He is playing at 1080p but all his games are on ultra settings.
 
I traded a forum member his broken Vega 64 for a working one plus 75 quid my way when it started taking me months to get parts for it after attempting to repair the thing. In the end it was easier to give him a working card and then repair this one in my own time. If that member is out there your card is still on the bench.. the thing I'm sure can be fixed but so far has alluded me.

If it were me I'd be looking at £150 for a relatively unknown quality V64 (given I was picking up 64's for less than £140 if I bought a stack of them a few months ago). Which to be fair is exactly what the forum member I sent the card to got. Just one off of a stack of vega cards that were used for mining. Turns out he got a decent card when all was said and done even if there was a little rust on a power stage once torn down.
 
I think the only issues with the Vega cards were on some early reference ones.

If it's been used for mining the fan might be shot. But that's an easy fix.

good buy I'd say.
 
The 64 air cooled MSI units have been selling new for around 240ish when the big auction site has had their 20% off offers... so I'd probably want to pay around 180ish MAX for a used one.
 
thank you all for you input - I've decided not to take the plunge as the card had been used for mining... although I don't game all that much now there's a few games coming out I want to try... COD, RDR2 and DOOM next year. need to see how the first 2 perform at 4k really...

If you were planning to watercool, could have been a good choice. But reference Vega model nah.

Saying that, if it was Navi reference could say yes pick it up and undervolt as the Navi reference blower is miles better than the Vega reference blower.
 
Just sent my Asus Radeon RX VEGA 64 ROG Strix OC off for RMA has fan broken, hoping they will replace card

If so when it comes back I'll be selling a brand new Asus Radeon RX VEGA 64 ROG Strix OC boxed for £180

Got another dead one sitting here if you're interested. Get if it fixed, sell it and we'll split the money. Can't fix it, just throw it.
