Tories grant 18 fracking licences - all north of Leicester

The ban was public news just like this afaik
This is just an electioneering stunt. The Tories have not banned fracking; they have called a moratorium; if they win the election they will allow fracking again.
I dont think there is much of a choice for UK to use its oil and gas rather then exporting the problem to foreign countries to sell us energy. My ideal would be to utilise all the hydro and tidal power we have but that too is blocked. If the only available fracking gas is in highly populated areas seems like its unlikely to proceed until prices are so high that the benefits appear worth the risk of low level earthquakes.

This isnt the only clever source of energy possible, there was a coal bed under the sea available for energy extraction via a chemical process rather then removing the coal itself. The biggest failure here is Scotland blocks fracking but has the widest unoccupied areas and highest chance of energy available without causing any problem to people. If Scotland ever wanted to be viable in independence it would have to be via a lot of energy production probably.

And risk water table damage? It's also simply incompatible with a policy of reducing ecological damage, but saying that, mining our own gas would mean less need to import, but i doubt the cost would be worth it considering how cheap it is right now.

It's probably too late realistically to change the level of support in Scotland for it, or seemingly England. Probably best to just expend investment on building industry for the future instead.

This.

It's only been 'halted' so to boost their position on the polls and get votes from people who normally vote Green etc. Then like you said, they'll reinstate the fracking after they win.

Also, like in the run up to the 2017 election, I expect there will be some more state-sponsored attacks / shootings in the name of terrorism, again to boost BoJo's position.

That's my feeling. Also, fracking may well make sense in a large country like America/etc but on a small crowded island nation with limited farmland it seems like an incredibly dangerous thing to be doing.

Especially when the world is about to start moving away from fossil fuels being the primary source of energy for transportation?

Plus yeah. This announcement is clearly just election spin.

It’ll take 30 years plus to phase domestic gas out, possibly “never” once carbon sequestration properly kicks off.

Thing is some of the modern AC/heater+inverter units are already more efficient and cheaper to heat the house with than a gas boiler and radiators.

The problem with the UK is there isn't the vast unpopulated areas like in say the US, so people are going to be effected by the earthquakes. Then there is the risk to the water table.

Yes, and the 'oops' continual leakage of gas through the ground that has devastated the health, recreation and residential value in significant areas of countryside.

Not surprised the likes of stockhausen are butt-hurt because it was going to be a stick that Labour were going to beat the Tories with (they brought it up a couple of times in PM's Questions) and they just got the stick taken away and snapped in two. So i guess all they have left is to blet on the Tories about is NHS, which the public will get bored with if they keep going on about one subject for 5 weeks.

Yeah Corbyn is bleating that it is just an election stunt etc... when they've done it in response to a report by the Oil and Gas authority.

I don't think we should elect MPs (and PMs) based on their charisma, but otoh, Corbyn has shown us what happens when your leader is 1) disliked by about 1/2 of the party MPs and 2) has the charisma of a brick.

(In fairness, I'd still rather have him as PM than Boris... but that's because Boris is an evil Tory and will rape and pillage the poor like all the evil Tories before him :p)

I think thats why its banned in New York state but the actual chances for that to happen are not close to what is feared. The problem is the perception is bad so even if it was a 1 in a million risk it wouldnt make much difference at this point. Thats why I suppose it can only be introduced somewhere remote and the case and data built for fracking in UK. Whatever people say about green energy we have no clean alternative for this UK gas source apart from buy it from Qatar, Russia or USA fracked gas. I'd rather we give the work to people in the UK, if its possible and afaik it is but people fears wont go away.

Is fraking still a thing, wasn't some woman or other that was "Advising" the government found out to have a rather vested interest?

Business Secretary Andrea Leadsom said the suspension on fracking may be temporary - imposed "until and unless" extraction is proved safe or the Tories get re-elected with a majority . . . Labour, the Lib Dems and the Green Party want a permanent ban.

Tories act to prevent NHS crisis hitting General Election hopes (LINK).

I am quite sure that Cummings has absolutely nothing to do with these cynical scams

Yeah basing your decision on evidence rather than emotion/populism is a "cynical scam"....

That'll be why Bonker Boris and his Facebook friend Cummings have decided to announce that the benefits freeze will end next year then will it (LINK)?

What does that have to do with fracking... are you going to going to bang on about "muh 200,000 people killed/Troies are murderers etc..." now? - more emotive nonsense...
