Lexus GS350

The one in the OP is going to be more like 8k isnt it, assuming 20% VAT and 900 shipping?

Seems like a lot of money and that is without factoring in the electrical items which i assume will not work in the UK.

Yes, that example would be. The VAT kind of ruins the value.

You mentioned you want a reliable car in post 3. Evos aren't exactly the first port of call for reliability.

To be honest I only think it's worth importing if you can't get the car at all in the UK. To go to all that trouble and buying sight unseen just for an engine choice doesn't seem worth it. I mean with that lexus there's a V8 version for sale in the UK at the moment. It is a few thousand more but you can actually see it, test drive it and have (I'd imagine) considerably more consumer rights than with something shipped from another continent.

Edit: in fact looking into it more, I don't think there would be much difference at all in the final price of your first car to the one linked above.

Go classic and get an LS400. One of the most comfortable cars ever made due to the electromagnetic suspension. Good ones seem to be creeping up in value now too :D

I just don't see why you would bother to import one of these. The GS was never a very good car with any engine. I had a GS430 for a few years and although faultlessly reliable and quite rapid in a straight line, it had an automatic gearbox that tied itself in knots whenever the pace got spiritied and had suspension that was too hard for the rather lacking dynamic ability.
Add in all the minusses with having an import (nav and other stuff in japanese, difficult to sell on) I just don't see any upsides other than the exclusivity of having a generic mid-sized saloon car that happens to have a different engine.

If you really want a GS, buy a UK GS430 for buttons.

You are forgetting the buyers agent fee, shipping agent fee, import duty, port fee, inland transport fee. It's basically way too expensive for a car that's basically the same as a 2k car over here.

ratty 300 vs low miles 350 with a 2k wheelset is hardly the same.

but yes it is expensive and you must really want that.

I’d say buy the newer models, I’d say they’re better than the F10. Why don’t you want a hybrid?
