Lexus GS350

a) Who mentioned the F10 as a consideration?
b) just lol at the idea they are better.
The old one is no way as good as it’s competitors but the new one is as good if not better. Doesn’t make sense to consider the old one imo.

I'd love to see the reviews in the motoring press to back that up, genuine question since i'm very sceptical.
I’m talking off personal experience no idea about the press (who are probably biased as they can’t sit there and **** off BMW or Lexus if they pay for adverts or give them a car to review)

just go and drive both and see for yourself.

I’d say buy the newer models, I’d say they’re better than the F10. Why don’t you want a hybrid?

Erm. The 3rd generation Lexus GS launched in 2005 against the BMW E60 and wasn't competitive. The F10 was a vastly superior car to the E60 so I'm confused how the GS could be a better car.
I owned a 2005 GS430 for 3 years between 2006 and 2009 and put 80k miles on it. It was a dull car but reliable. I can't think of a single area in which it is better than an F10 5-series other than reliability. Even the 4th generation GS is poor when lined up against the F10.

I’m talking about the 2011 onwards models. The 2005 one wasn’t a great buy imo hence why I’m recommending other newer one.

I’d disagree the f10 is better than the 2011 GS and that’s coming from someone that used to own an F10 M5 but that’s my opinion having driven both.

Other than perhaps reliability (though in 5 years I have yet to experience material issues across 4 of them) I cant think of a single way the GS is better. The F10 has a better interior, feels nicer made, has a better gearbox, a better engine range, a far better and more modern infotainment system, it handles better, it's just... Better?

Your paying for the durability with Lexus. There is a reason they are always top for reliability. They use big NA engines which are well proven, because they never go wrong.

They are much better made, if you can see beyond the dashboad and gimmicks. But only a couple of models are even remotely sporty.

Better quality as well as reliability, better sound system (I had an upgraded one in my F10 and it was poor, one down from the Bang and olufsen) better specification, better to drive, better fuel economy I believe when you compare petrol vs petrol. Much better dealers and superior warranty packages that are very reasonably priced And very good servicing pricing.(I had my Isf serviced for £195 at a dealer with a Loan car and it was booked in a few days. My f10 was under warranty and it took 2 months to get the doors painted due to corrosion and my warranty repair request was ignored (they’re all like that)

Yep, Lexus has by far the best dealers and support. They just dont mess you around. Annoyingly they wont deal with Toyotas unless there is no Toyota garage nearby :\

The HK system in my F10, once I’d finally figured the right settings, is excellent. Not listened to the system in the GS really so will reserve judgement on that. I am not an audiophile but at the end of the day it is a car – excellent sound is good enough.

Specification wise is a matter of what you make it surely? I accept that as standard the GS is better specified but you just.. buy a higher spec one.

Dealer service will vary between dealers, a flaw with the franchised model. I’ve heard all sorts of complaints about how awful some dealers are but personally speaking the service I receive is generally excellent, never waited more than a few days for a service booking and the pricing, whilst it doesn’t sound as cheap as Lexus, is still reasonable. A benefit of not living in one of the larger cities I suppose.

The warranty product is excellent, I cannot see how the coverage offered by Lexus is any better, but I accept that the pricing is unfavourable. But this is all service stuff not car specific stuff – the F10 is just a better car. I have suffered no durability issues in any of the ones I have owned and neither has my father (We’ve both had two). My only area of criticism with respect to quality is the diabolically crap trim on the steering wheel but other than that it’s a comfortable, relaxing, pleasant and rattle free and well made place to be. By contrast the GS is a mess of interior shapes with crappy infotainment everywhere. It still can’t shake its ‘posh Toyota’ look and feel, a problem that has forever bugged Nissan with Infiniti too.

This is my sort of car – with the exception of a mistake in a 3 Series I’ve never bought anything other than a car from this segment for almost 15 years – if Lexus built a better car than BMW I’d drive one as I’ve always found the service offering from Lexus as being very appealing – but the service cannot make up for the fact that the product is just objectively inferior every single time. I suppose you could say that the Lexus product is so much worse than the BMW product that I happily pay probably a thousand quid a year more in servicing and warranty costs just to avoid it.

And don’t forget the original point was which was the better car – the fact the inferior car is less hassle when you want to buy a banger age one is surely a different argument.

I am sure some will say my view doesn’t matter as I am a ‘BMW fanboy’. But why am I such a fan? It’s because I consistently find their products to be excellent and my tendency to buy them comes from that. If somebody ever released a car that was clearly just better in every way than the 5 Series then I’d say goodbye to BMW and purchase it.

A lot of what you’ve said is subjective preference rather than something objective.

I don’t know how much a 535i costs compared to a similarly spec gs450.

I’ve always found the bmw warranty scheme to be complex I think they increase the price significantly after 60k? Do you have any examples of the pricing vs a Lexus?
Posh Toyota? Since when is that a bad thing? A company renowned for making the highest quality products in their market with excellent durability.

Having a warranty is great, but having a poor quality car and having to use it often isn’t great at all.

It's not that complex - the price does increase significantly after 60k so you need to avoid buying a new policy on a car with over 60k.

A comprehensive renewal on a sub 60k car is just over £800. Which I think is expensive, personally, but the product is good.
