Hi there

I think this is quite a simple one, but could do with some help....

Recently we got some old light fittings that we thought we could re-purpose for our hallway, which we are about to have re-decorated.

Each ceiling rose has 3x pendants and I've replaced the ugly black cords with woven ones and cleaned up the metal. However I am not sure how to wire it inside the rose so it is ready for hanging. I asked a work colleague but I am not sure if his recommendation is correct?

This is the way he suggested doing it (Basically screwing the 3 lives, earths and neutrals into 3 blocks and connecting the wires from the ceiling at the other end).

And here is a pic of what I have at the moment (Re-wiring job still in progress).

I've googled extensively but getting a straight answer does not seem that simple; maybe this is such a dumb question that no one ever needs to ask it! :D

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

That hand drawn pic woulud only work if you didnt have any switches.

at a normal ceeling rose you have a neutral which is linked thru to the next rose, a ring which is linked thru to the next rose and the switch, and then a switched live that comes from the switch to your pendant

hopefully this crude drawing makes sense. Will do another one in 10 mins or so if not once i find a pen!

Looking at your pic there all you have is 2x pendants in one light. So you would wire the lives to the switched live, the neutrals -neutral and earths to earths

Thanks. It is actually 3x pendants. One of them I have stripped back to the bear wires in my pics and the others I haven't yet

Hi I am not sure if you mean the light I have in the hall and the wires coming from it (Would need to take the current fitting off as I can't seem to just loosen it) but here are some pics of the rose and light I want to put up (3 pendants hanging off a single rose)

Rose with 3x pendants

Wires coming off a single lamp

This is pretty much how they looked when I got them too but I've swapped out the cables going from the rose to the lights.

What you have there is easy to wire. But there must be somewhere within that rose to wire the incomming (house) wires into, if there isnt then you are gonna need something like a terminal block to connect them all together

so coming from your rose you have 3 x cables you need to strip them back and wire the same colour cores all together.

then at your existing rose you will have 4 cores, a RING/PERMANANT live, a neutral an earth and a switched live that comes from your light switch. If you want some help identifying whats what in your existing rose you will need to post a picture of how its currently wired
