Why are GPUs so expensive?

A £1500 GPU to me is worth it depending on the performance upgrade you will get from your current GPU and also if you could afford it after your bills. When I was single living at home I could afford it now I'm a home owner and got a partner I can't even afford a card at £200.

If they were worth it I'd already own one.
Instead I picked up a 2080 FTW3 for less than £600.

And that's what I mean... £900 more!!!

There is no justification, the extra performance does not warrant that kind of hike (imho).

Yeah a crazy part of me would like to see Nvidia's market share to get to 100% so AMD gives up and quits the GPU business. So when people complain about the total lack of progress and ultra high prices I can smile and say to myself "you've made your bed now lie in it".
That is a rather silly way of thinking. Me personally, I want to see AMD releasing a GPU that kicks NVidia's butt. I then want to see NMVidia release a GPU that kicks AMDs butt. Rinse and repeat.

I don't want it. I want nvidia to give up on making GPUs which they don't have the needed competence on, and instead another, better corp to take their position.

Do you run your own company? I am pretty sure NVidia's shareholders disagree with you on "the needed competence" LMAO :D

How would that be the consumers fault?

Do you regularly go out of your way to buy crap products to help the little guy?

If so can you share examples with pictures?

Yes, little guys like you and I. I'm trying to help the consumer. I want Nvidia to release faster and more amazing products at lower prices. To make this happen we need strong competition and equally amazing products from AMD and Intel. I want competition.

That wont happen if Nvidia has 100% of the market. Instead we'll have slower and more expensive products. I dont want that.

Why? They may be happy that they earn some money but technically they can earn money from any activity (for example, they can buy some things and resell them), here I am a potential customer who is pretty well aware of the qualities of their products, their dirty and unfair business practices, all of these are factors that repel the knowledgeable customers.

Funny AMD seem to be doing just fine in the CPU space with a fraction of the budget that Intel has. So why can it not be the same in the GPU space.

Intel released a really good processor 10 years ago. They've just been tweeking it ever since because they became complacent. It only took a low budget effort from AMD to destroy Intel. If Intel had been really trying for the last 10 years, they'd be way ahead of Ryzen with the resourses they have.

Nvidia aren't lazy like Intel. Jenson Button has been continuously pushing Nvidia forward non stop for over 20 years.

They don't have to be expensive, if you're abit of a bargain hunter like myself then you can grab new or opened but unused parts for a fraction of the price. I recently bought a Gigabyte 2080 Aorus Xtreme waterblock card for £500 with its 4 year warranty still intact! Shop around and you'll be surprised what you can find.

Why go through all that hassle when a 2070 super can be bought from a shop with plenty of supple for £400

Long story short i had a 2070super but wanted to watercool it.. couldn’t find a waterblock that fitted so sold up and bought a 2080 in its place that came pre-fitted from factory with a waterblock. Didn’t cost me much for the transition thank god.

I'd like to see a 4k ultra GPU at a sensible price and plentiful supply. I don't care who makes it just that it works and is reliable.

^^This. I'm not spending a penny until such cards are at mid-range prices.

I'll focus on playing my backlog of games, which would take me around 6/7 years to get through and that's playing 50 games per year.

AMD/Nvidia/Intel will get my hard earned when i feel they deserve it.

5700xt says hello.

mid range price and decent 4K performance

Mid range price used to be £250 max. Cant believe how easily people have forgotten.

lol that's low end prices.

if you expect 4K 60 performance at that price, that's going to be a while yet unfortunately. The top of range cards will be doing 4K 144fps before 4K 60fps is just 250
