The whole thing is kinda random right now.
We don't get good leaders because no one with intelligence can be bothered and people outside of the rich "elite" has no chance. It's been that way since the whole "career politician" concept was born.
It's not just the UK either, Europe has **** politicians, as do the Americas, don't even get started on Africa or Asia. They are all looking after themselves as #1 priority, because really they are a bunch of fatcat businessmen. Very few live in the real world or have had real jobs.
It's representative democracy which has this inherent fault.
For it to work, it requires an electorate which is not only knowledgeable about politics, but also has high moral standards.
But, this is how it really works:
Scenario 1.
Labour Party to Voter: Vote for us because we will give you free money!
Voter: Ooooh, free money! You've got my vote.
Knowledgeable and Moral Person to Voter: Be careful, because you're not really voting for free money; you're voting for the effects of socialism.
Voter to Knowledgeable and Moral Person: But....... FREE MONEY!
Voter (30 years later): My granddaughter has been gang-raped by Muslims! Boo hoo!
Knowledgeable and Moral Person to Voter: I did warn you......
Scenario 2.
Conservative Party to Voter: Vote for us because we will increase your house price!
Voter: Ooooh, free money! You've got my vote.
Knowledgeable and Moral Person to Voter: Be careful, because you're not really voting for free money; you're voting for the effects of globalism.
Voter to Knowledgeable and Moral Person: But....... FREE MONEY!
Voter (30 years later): My granddaughter has been gang-raped by Muslims! Boo hoo!
Knowledgeable and Moral Person to Voter: I did warn you......
Or this:
Election year: VOTE LABOUR TO STOP THE TORIES
Election year +5: VOTE TORY TO STOP LABOUR
Election year +10: VOTE LABOUR TO STOP THE TORIES
Election year +15: VOTE TORY TO STOP LABOUR
In other words, it is a revolving dictatorship.
Democracy doesn't necessarily lead to wise choices, but it does give a person responsibility.
