Pimax

If you're looking to use them for video or vr experiences they're decent otherwise don't bother.

Their software is awful and not a lot of use for gaming.

The Leap Motion Controller which this is basically the same thing in a different package retails for $89.99 and can be had on the bay for as little as $30 so be interesting to see how much they sell it for.

The big difference here is that the Rigel module has a wider field of view so it won't lose your hands if you are reaching out to the edge of your FOV

As a kickstarter backer, i can only advise everyone give pimax a very wide berth for now, well over 2 years on and I still dont have my headset nor any of the stretch goals they promised. Those that have had their headsets, many are having problems with cases cracking and RMA's taking months - people who ordered base stations have been unable to use their headsets basically at all are now being refused RMA's because the headset was delivered a year ago and is "out of warranty". They are a complete nightmare.

If you do feel tempted to order one I would onky risk it through amazon as you can actually return it that way. But actually, just get an index instead because it might actually work.

Cheers for reporting back and just in time too. I was looking into ordering one just to check it out with Half Life Alyx. Their website looks a lot better now so it really was tempting me.

Will leave it alone for now.

Just see this on Twitter and it made me laugh

Example of awful@pimaxofficialcustomer service; I back a full 8K kit in Oct 2017. The controllers and basestations get delayed. In Nov 2019 they offered upgrades to Index controllers and basestations for $179 due in Jan 2020. Today, they want another $35 to ship them!?

This weeks amusing thing Pimax have done - when issuing refunds they charge you CC handling fees, so someone who pre-ordered over $800 nearly 6 months ago and has nothing to show for it is now being charged $50 just to cancel their order. Nice work Pimax. Because it is totally the customer's fault that Pimax can't ship anything within 6 months of an order.

I wouldn't accept that. Just do a chargeback via your bank.

So do pimax have longer wait times than valve?

Depends what product you order and from where - you can buy pimax products through amazon and then you stand a half decent chance of a)receiving something and b) being able to return it when it inevitably stops working.

Ordering products from the pimax website it a complete crap shoot where even when they say its in stock it can take months to actually arrive, plus RMA requests can also take months to get any movement on, and they will do things like have you return a product to an EU warehouse but send you a replacement from China so you get hit with import duty, or they will make you pay shipping each way, or all sorts of other consumer hostile behaviour).
