Hey guys,

I'm looking to fit blinds into my living room, the dimensions of the window are:

Living room
H: 240cm
W: 340cm
D: 16cm

I did originally ask to get another two rooms fitted with blinds and was quoted nearly £3k, what price do you think I should be looking at for just the living room?

I have asked for them to quote me again for just that room, so I'm just waiting for them to reply.

I'm interested in vertical blinds if that helps?

Cheers GD!

Just put your own up? It's super easy to do.

I am guessing, if you were quoted £3k for 3 rooms, then one would be around £1k? ??:p

Haha, the other rooms don't have such large windows!

I'm planning to put them up in the other two bedrooms, but the living room needs to be done professionally.

If you have cats, don't get verticals. I am forever repairing the damn things.

I did however put them up myself, set from Dunelm for lest than £50 in a sale. Almost same dimensions as yours but shorter at about 180cm but then again I had to cut each drop to that length.

Are these just your usual vertical blinds? If so that seems excessive.

The most expensive vertical blinds on a blinds website is £200 per blind at your dimensions. So assuming the 3 rooms are the same size then that's £600 just for the blinds... Where the bleeding heck as £3k come from?

Go onto a custom made blinds website.... input your dimensions. Wait for delivery... fit yourself. Saves thousands by the sound of it.

but the living room needs to be done professionally.

Do the professional people drill better holes than you?

Years ago we had our back doors, kitchen window, office window, hallway window and a bedroom window done for about £1000. All different styles and sizes. For the life of me I cannot remember the name but I know we had a huge discount off them.

Depends on the style and materials used and what level of automation. Your question is as useful as asking "how much should a car cost?" without defining what type of car you are after.

For example, Blindsdirect will do your vertical blinds for £165 each. £340 for wooden ones.

And then I have seen on grand designs solid wooden large strip vertical blinds that are electronically controlled and cost £10k.

I would say though and unless your blinds are really special, the rough costs seem to be at most sites I visited from £165 to £340 per blind for the size you ahve stated.

On the basis that the other two rooms are the same size and not smaller they seem to be charging you £2k for fitting!!!!!

You could buy all three blinds and fit them yourself for under a grand.

were they 24ct gold blinds or made out of tiger £3k seems really expensive. i got mine done by hillarys and it was about £200/300 for 2 bedrooms and living room if i mind right.. was years ago right enough.

I'm amazed that blinds company hasn't gone out of business by quoting people that much.

Is the window area not your standard type? i.e. something complex that requires a professional to fit it.

It would seem that people still take up their quotes though.....you dont need many to accept if you are going to make £2k profit per job.

Thanks guys!

The blinds I was interested were the Allusion blinds by Louvolite, he did say they were new and thus very expensive.

No pets, so no worries about that either.

I've just been quoted £211 by Aveon, so will see what other quotes I can get.

I can drill holes and fairly decent at DIY, I wall mounted my tv when I moved in, but I just feel this is going to be a little more difficult, and as it's the living room, any shoddy work will be seen by guests?

My friend went with Hillary's as well, so I'll get in touch too.

I found the best value is finding them in sales at dunelm or similar shops as the quality is great. Otherwise online custom size ones are the next cheapest way but quality is poor.

Blind shops are rip offs. Most online prices are higher than you'd expect too.

Fitting blinds is **** easy until you get to bay windows and similar, but it's ok once you get the hang of it and loads of online guides.

Ours, 5 years ago, came in at that sort it price, but we had 18 windows, including four bays....

That seems very steep

For those that went with a blinds company online, did you see them in real life first, ie visit a store or get a sample sent, or just went by what they looked like in pictures and had them installed?

Hillarys quoted me 2k
Then did the old phone the manager spiel to get it to 1500
I had them made online for 300 quid
Though fitted them myself but even paying a local tradesman to fit them
I would still have been quids in
And yes I had some samples sent out for free

Did ours a few months back.Local company wanted £120 each for perfect fit blinds, all windows around 1m square.
Got them from blinds2go for around £65 each and fitted myself.Only 4 metal tabs that slide between window and rubber easy peasy.

I've arranged for Hillary's to come this Friday, unfortunately, they didn't offer a quote like the other two companies have, so hopefully it won't be extortionate.

I'm swaying towards the blinds from Aveon, as they seem a reasonable price which includes installation, and have been recommended by other residents in our apartment block.
