This is where the problem lies, I've lived long enough to see this shift with my own eyes, you will see it too eventually(hopefully) if you live long enough. For the last 40 years or so the Dems have moved much more left, I even think the Reps have moved slightly left over the years but it's that the Dems have moved more to the left relatively speaking.
40 years ago things were at least amicable, the things that the Reps still represent the Dems used to, like strong boarders/American jobs for American workers/Family values, the Dems don't stand for any of those, and much more, any more while the Reps still do.
Without Trump, or Bernie, that actually hold the values that they say they do, the DEMS and the REPS are virtually the same. Both side have been bought a long time ago and the differences, before Trump, were minimal. It's the same in the UK, we have the ILLUSION of choice, but now the Labour party have hit the self destruct(woke) button so we will have the Tories in power until Labour sort themselves out - if they ever do.

Aye many of the "loony far left socialist" ideas that the "far left" of the democrats put forward were mainstream Republican party policies and in place (sometimes with some restrictions) between the end of WW1 and the Reagan era.

Over the last few years the DemocRats have criticised Trump based on the following:
Cognitive ability (ie. early onset dementia) despite him repeatedly beating them.
Quid Pro Quo with Ukraine (that failed outside the House because Democrats couldn't rig the vote in the Senate).
Using the presidency to make money for his business.
Bragging that being rich means you can touch womens' genitals and they let you do it.
Being a racist.
Colluding with Russia.
Joe Biden has:
Repeatedly struggled during campaigning to put coherent sentences together due to clear cognitive decline.
Admitted on tape to threatening Ukraine with loss of aid if they didn't fire a prosecutor investigating a company his son was on the board of and being paid mega bucks by despite having no expertise.
Been repeatedly filmed touching women and children inappropriately, sniffing their hair and making them visibly uncomfortable in his presence.
Can be seen in a video enthusiastically introducing "Michael Jackson" who is just some guy wearing black face.
The Obama administration that Biden was a part of sold a load of USA's uranium stockpiles to Russia and Obama is even caught on microphone at one stage telling Dmitry Medvedev to pass on a message to Vladimir Putin that he'll have more flexibility once he's elected, they also did the whole "Russia reset" thing in 2009 but why so chummy if they believe Russia is so hostile?
In summary, Democrat supporters are going to vote to elect a man president who ticks all of the boxes of things they have attacked Trump for in the last 4-5 years. Why? because they're every bit as hypocritical as the Democrat party are.

Don't worry guys the panic is over in the US. Dr Kushner is on it now so everything is fine, normal service has now resumed.
This is just utter BS from Trump’s campaign manager. He acted early!? He’s been calling it a hoax and doing precisely nothing for weeks. Banning travel from Europe will do absolutely nothing considering the virus is already in the US.
He did ban flights from China to be fair* could have done with doing that sooner and have various European countries join him too. I do wonder if lots of the US infections can be traced back to Italy.
Of course you're right to point out the cat is probably well out of the bag already in the US... this is perhaps also just for the PR. I think they're going to get growing cases in coming days and he'll want to throw around some blame too, how he acted decisively on China but they were already let down by Europe perhaps? Obvious risk for him politically is the provision of healthcare, access to it for poorer Americans etc.. If he can avoid rural America with this then then great for him... if some of his support base start seeing their relatives getting hit with this then they might well turn on him yet... or perhaps even come around to the idea of universal healthcare.
