Hello,

My father is after a new Pc for photo editing and maybe some light gaming.

He needs everything apart from Screen, Mouse, Keyboard and windows.

I'm not sure if photo editing has high reliance on Ram or Gfx ?

Budget is around £1500

Thanks

"Photoshopping" can certainly eat far more memory than gaming, if taken to heavy level.
High pixel count panoramas, using lots of layers etc start racking GBs fast.
And that budget can certainly give 2x16GB kit easily.
Though if it's at more normal level and there's no running of multiple programs simultaneously, then standard 2x8GB kit would be enough.

Also properly multithreaded code can certainly utilize big pile of cores well.
Though it varies from program to program.

Is there any wishes/limits for case look and size?
I assume quieter cooling would be better

Well there is a bit of room in the price is need be. I just don't know if a good gfx card is needed for photoshop and lightroom.

The links below might help with hardware selection.

I would go with some cheaper Ram. The 3600 kit isn't worth the extra money.

You could save on the board by going with a B450 Tomahawk MAX.

There are better options for the SSD. I would Google Sabrent Rocket 1TB and go with one of those. If you need to buy everything from ocuk then the Team Group MP34 is a better option (Or wait for the WD Blue SN550 1TB to come back in stock).

You will be more than fine with a 650W psu. Even a 550W would handle that spec.

@lee32uk

I changed the RAM cos we just checked and he has 32gb of the same hyperx in his current system and will add it to the new system to give 64gb which will be good.

Just need him to find a decent case now with good airflow

HyperX is Kingston Ram, so I assume you meant LPX ?

The Fractal Meshify C has pretty good airflow. There is a windowed version if you prefer, but the solid side panel should be quieter.

You get two 120mm fans pre-installed, so the extra one below can be used for rear exhaust and move the existing rear Fractal fan to the front so you have 2 x 120mm intake.

I did mean HyperX, dunno how i messed that up. The Ram he has is DDR4 2400

So i was thinking this would be fine ?

Just bear in mind you will have one kit running at 2400MHz and the new kit at 3200MHz. For a gaming pc 2400MHz would be considered to be really slow. Not sure if Ram speed affects things like Photoshop/Lightroom so someone else might be able to answer that. As you already have it, then you might as well reuse it.

This Crucial MX500 is better than the 860 QVO.

After a quick google, it seems Ram speed doesn't make much difference in Photoshop.

Seems best to have 64GB then.

Thanks
