B&Q (Diy.com) website

I was something like number 320,000 in the queue a week or so ago. Tried a few times since and always an hour+ wait. I don't bother.
Shambles indeed. I rarely go there knowing I'll definatley place an order, usually to see if they have something or check the price of something vs elsewhere. Not waiting an hour to do that.
From a technical perspective the load profile on the system is probably different than they'd ever imagined and that's the problem. You could call it a pandemic bug :). System must lack scalability. They need to move to the cloud :).

I set my "user agent" to Googlebot for B&Q website. It makes the website think you are Google search indexing so it lets you straight in.

B&Q didn't introduce the queuing system as the site couldn't cope they did it to limit the amount of click and collect orders going through so the stores weren't overloaded with orders. The stores usually get a very small percentage of clck and collect orders that along with having to move them to the car park for collection meant they could only deal with a relatively small amount of orders a day.

Screwfix didn't have an issue as their operating model is designed around click & collect they also offer a far smaller range of items. I used them for a couple of items and it was all organised very well for collection.

Just seen this on Facebook  (Not 100% sure if it's a recent picture but assuming it is)

That’s nuts, what are all those people doing? Fence paint is the new flour it seems.

I don’t know if it’s the same where you are but all our local DIY stores could easily implement the social distancing rules with their normal customer load. They hardly ever have significant numbers of customers in them outside of a bank holiday weekend.

Oh that is good. I just tried that on my mac and works perfectly (can't do the old back button trick on the iOS app so resorted to desktop). Jez's suggestion of tracepoint is a good shout, I generally only want to browse anyway.

Yep, ive been trying for bloody days, got lucky late on Friday, as when i joined the queue around 7pm, i only had to wait 20 minutes, so managed to get on.

Once the little man got to the end of the line, instead of letting me on the site, i just got a white page with Internal Error top left, so i just went to the address bar, cursor on the end of site address, hit Enter, and the site appeared :p

Can't even get into the open stores, as the queues are bloody massive.

Haven't any issued getting on the site. Peak times obviously busy but just go on early morning/late evening and it's a few minutes.

The issue now seems to be that they are restricting what items can be ordered for click and collect even though they are showing as in stock in store. Can't get most of the things I need. Won't deliver either

Just go to ur local store!

My local store is 15 miles away and getting fence paint isn't exactly essential.

Let's be honest, how many of these people are there buying things to make essential repairs to their property verses the number that are not...

It's the same as the people lining up outside The Range to buy paddling pools and sand pits, clearly essential purchases.

B&Q are ****. I wanted an axe and a brick hammer, so popped up to the large B&Q up the road only to be told that they don't sell axes and hammers (or any hand tools for that matter) in store and they must be ordered online. Not much use considering I needed them pretty much immediately. So I resigned myself to the fact that I'd have to wait and I ordered both online. When they arrived the blade on the axe wasn't even a blade, it was a good 3mm thick. Complained and was told that they aren't allowed to sell sharp tools for reasons.
