20 yrs a pc gamer. Is it time to switch.

^^ I am the same as Timber really, gaming laptop for RTS / WOW, console for everything else - warzone has been great for me due to x platform / keyboard mouse and a hope this trent continues.

I wonder how the future of Windows will affect PC gaming. Surely at some point, they're going to have to start afresh somehow and break a load of game compatibility. Will consoles save the day with their new found love of backward compatibility? A couple of points in case with two old games. I tried playing both F.E.A.R. and TRON 2.0 yesterday. Both crash minutes in. Is it my computer? Is it their age? I then went and fired up PS Now and streamed F.E.A.R. without any trouble at all. Yes, it looks awful at 720p or even less but at least I could still play it.

So all these games that are 10, 20 years old start having problems, are we going to see the same things happening to 2020 games in 2035? Mind you, I'll probably be dead by then. :p

I don't know why Microsoft don't release a gaming OS. A totally stripped down version of Windows specifically for gaming only!

Just an idea as compatibility would be much more stable.

While it would nice to own every single gaming platform, financialy it is exhausting.

I am a PC guy through and through, but I am also a couch gamer and use Steam Big Picture as an interface for PC gaming. It's absolute pants compared to the interface on the PS4 which I much prefer.

Even the XBOX interface feels cluttered and confusing.

Then when you factor in the quality of the exclusive games... :(

on the fence myself at the minute. My pc will be due an upgrade soon and GPU prices are mental. Also PC multiplayer is full of hackers etc and we no longer get the benefits of rented servers (battlefield) so it can at least be reduced by good communities. Give me full keyboard mouse support for shooters and Im in. The lastest Modern Warfare is a step in that direction.

Shame you haven't got more posts as the members market here is great for picking up bargains. Second hand is great so long as you're comfortable with the risk, buying from here is much better than eBay for example for that reason.
used electronics with no warranty. Even the price of 2nd hand GPus is crazy expensive.

If you already have a backlog of PC games, why would you say bye to it?

I can play Dragone Age Inquisition in 4k 60fps. All the definitive versions of multiplatform games are on PC for the simple reason you can 4k-remaster them at a click of a button.

Lets not ignore some games such as Skyrim which just because exponential powerhouses on PC.

The issue with PC is price. If you've already paid the price of entry tax for the processor/RAM/keyboard/case/PSU/mouse/controller/peripherals and only need to do a cheeky GPU upgrade.. I'd go for that. Also most people need a PC anyway, and a PC doubles as a torrent machine, home theatre PC, video editting machine...

And it can do emulation.. BOTW 4k/60fps ....
You also have games which really need to be played on PC and are some of the best of all time like Divinity Original Sin 2

Also M+K for FPS.

You can also spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get a current AAA title just to actually run on a PC.

Modern Warfare anyone?

I live out in the sticks with crappy internet and a 170GB game would take me over a week to download. For a 6 hour single player campaign? No chuffin way Jose.

It's lazy optimisation frankly and people just suck it up willing to be bent over and stiffed regardless.

PC gaming has become so ridiculous it's beyond a joke.

Did I mention that I have crappy internet?

Here's a frinstance for you. I bought Assassins Creed Origins yesterday , on a disc. Switched the Xbox One X to offline mode and it installed 48.9 Gb within 30 minutes.

Then switched into online mode and I had just 3GB to update.

Stuff like that is a game changer for someone who has Crappy Internet.

PS. I'm loving the game. Warmed to the main character already and what a stunning setting. The artwork in this game is unbloodyreal.

Best £10 I've ever spent.

Using mouse and keyboard as the sole reason for sticking to PC is a weak argument. Valid, but doesn't justify the enormous price difference.

There's a lot more PC offers for gaming besides mouse and keyboard which most of us here should know, without getting into detail. The only thing that bothers me personally is the exclusives that get released on the PS4, or Switch games we can't play on PC like BotW.

I tend to just play games that work well with a joypad on the console, fps can be annoying without a kb&m but if it's single player it's still doable.

I don't understand why it's so hard to use a controller.

The games tend to have aim assist to help you out.

I use both and I sold my console and now game on pc and sometimes I use a controller because I prefer driving with a controller.

However if I go to a console I can play fps fine with just a controller even though I play csgo and apex legends on pc.

I think people need to man up and stop using this as an excuse as to why they play terrible. Consoles are controller only for a reason it gives a level playing field.

It's like steroid use at the Olympics. People using kb and mouse on console have an unfair advantage.

Because I've been using a mouse and keyboard for over 20 years, I just don't have the experience with a controller. I find them extremely awkward to use. Would this change if I were to exclusively use controllers from now on? Most likely, but I have no reason to do that. I play majority of games with a mouse and keyboard (even third person RPGs), and have a joystick and steering wheel for those types of games. (I don't use mouse and keyboard on consoles. I only have handhelds which I do use a controller for, but only for RPGs where I dont need to actually look around with an analog)

give over you find a controller hard to use. literally 8 year old children use them with no issues.

You're finding that brain hard to use though. These 8 year old children are not used to using a mouse and keyboard to game for 20 years. In the same way that I do not understand how console games have troubles using a mouse and keyboard to game. It all comes down to what you are used to using, and I'm not used to using a controller.

Console gamers have no issues using a mouse and keyboard. The issue is using them on a console. Something you seem to be forgetting.

If an 8 year old can use a controller I don't see any reason why a pc gamer cannot adapt. They are just being awkward like people complaining that the car they were given is an automatic however they normally drive manual. It's easier if anything to use.

I constantly see people on /r/pcgaming saying they are console gamers moving to PC and are having troubles using the mouse and keyboard (fumbling the wrong keys, not able to aim well etc). As I mentioned, I'm sure I could adapt if I just started using them (Something you seem to be forgetting), but I have no reason to.

really? when most people use keyboards on their smartphones, school computers, laptops, how do they do their uni work? or real life work?

i find that hard to believe it must be a minority just like the minority who have issues with controllers. most people can use both with no issues. just they prefer one and then demand they must use that one across the board.

Lads it comes to preference everyone can learn/adapt to both obviously. But for me personally playing an fps with a controller feels slow and clumsy compared to kb/m now. It doesn't mean I can't use a controller for shooters. I just don't want to.
Modern warfare introduced proper kb/m support on PS4/Xbox. Which seems to suggest next gen consoles/games will too.
Kb/m support is not reason to switch on it's own. The cost to upgrade/maintain a high end PC along with the high level of hackers/cheaters in multiplayer is though.

They also introduced an option where you can select to only get matchmaking with people using the same input type.

Which reinforces why it's never been acceptable to use a KB+M on console.

I own a gaming PC, I have used both extensively and I don't want to see them making it compatible in any FPS games on a console. Other games is fine. If you are going to put it into FPS then KB+M should be separate matchmaking as mandatory not opt into it. Allowing them to play against controller users is like letting formula 1 drivers use bigger engines or lighter cars, etc. It gives you an advantage over a controller. That doesn't mean you will be a god if you use KB+M game skill is far more important therefore better players will be able to exploit that advantage more and make it bigger than those that are crap who will barely see any improvement.
