NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

775mm2 on the 2080Ti. To put that into perspective on a perfect yield basis. You’d get 3-4 5700XT chips out of the same space you’d get 1 2080Ti chip. Not so much £1100 worth, but good enough reasoning as to why they are expensive to produce.
Yea. People saying it will cost £1500 give poor reasoning as to why imo. They just assume it is nvidia so prices will always go up. I just can’t see them going with such a big die. I could be wrong, but my reasoning is they will want to go with selling higher volume this time, so smaller profits each unit and then make it up or exceed it by selling higher quantities oh and of course there is competition this time around too.

Not like anything is stopping them releasing the Titan at £1500 or £2500. People who want the best will need to buy the Titan and they will get milked doing so :D

The 780 Ti & 980 Ti both launched at the same price.... £525-£550 for the reference card trust me I had several of each of them... the 980 Tibwas my last wow card same price but a great increase in performance.. the 1080 Ti was and still is a fantastic card but we had to pay for it. Turing on the other hand is just a complete joke overall

What makes me laugh is people are practically begging for the next card to be a even bigger joke by expect only 20-30% more performance and for it to cost even more than the 2080Ti. Jesus Christ... Lol.

It's a kind of madness now, where six or seven hundred pounds is seemingly the norm for a mid-range graphics card, aka the 2080.

That used to get you the top card, and was still overpriced IMO.

Yep they seem to have entirely caved and are literally volunteering to be bent over even more, saying stuff like 'I'll pay whatever it costs as long as I get 25-30% uplift from 2080ti". That's the best way possible to ensure they get totally abused by a soulless corporation.

You’ll always have a % of people that have little care to the cost or are generally just trolling and poking fun at the situation. Just like a large population of birds you’ll always have a chance of spotting a great tit. Nvidia aren’t stupid they know full well they could sell GPUs at near on any price but that the volume of sales diminishes quickly above certain thresholds, put simply they’d love to sell silicon at £5k a part or more but they want to sell millions not a feW thousand to rich or those unable to manage their finances.

Economy collapsing, 3-4m unemployed, pandemic....and yet people are still kidding themselves & queuing up to throw money at PC & Console gaming.

People need to get real and get their priorities straight because not having the latest & greatest Nvidia Gfx cards & gaming consoles is going to be the least of their problems in the coming months & years.

In the great list of bad financial decisions buying an overpriced GPU doesn’t even flick the needle...

Also should probably avoid speaking for the population at large, there will be a lot of people that will suffer economically but also a lot of people that will be absolutely fine.

I’m right in the firing line of this pandemic and the economic fallout, but thankfully due to years of reasonably sensible living and the privilege of a well paid job I’m not going to be on the streets tomorrow if things go south. I will certainly be curtailing my discretionary spending but I’m still going to buy the occasional thing that helps make my life more fun... that probably doesn’t stretch to spending 1.5k on a new GPU but I won’t judge someone who does.

To me it’s pretty evident with AMD bringing the heat, you will likely be able to pick up at least the equivalent of 2080Ti performance for around £600 or less this autumn/winter... I think that’s not a completely awful proposition. Nvidia will likely still have the performance lead (would love to be wrong there but we’ll see!) so they can probably continue to charge a premium for the top cards. You will always have that part of the market that will pay pretty much whatever to have the absolute best, but you don’t have to go for the highest tippity top level sku just because it’s there.

There is a lot of cheap credit nowadays - people have got £1000s into debt, buying gaming PC parts,or literally won't save any money,ie,just spend their whole paycheck. Look at phones - a contract is essentially a loan,so if people had to pay the full amount upfront, less of the high end ones would probably be sold. So a £1000 iPhone being £1200 doesn't look so bad if you are paying it off over 2 to 3 years.

According to Youtube Sep 17th is the day. The RTX 2080 was released on Sep 20th 2018, the 2080 Ti the 27th. Both were announced a month earlier. How many cards can they produce in 8 weeks?

The production will have started sooner. The real issue is not that, it's shipping. Especially this year.
