NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

That was what I meant. The convo we have had has been chill :) which is a nice change of pace considering some other convo's I've had in here where the responses feel like they are filled with a desire to crush you and win.

Ah, apologies. Lost in internet translation!

I don't like the crush you and win tactics either, hence why I was happy to depart the scene. :p

My mind is blown by the fact you believe I have been underhand by selling an item (at market value) to a buyer who is fully aware of the release of the 3000 series cards (of which we don't know the timescale for release).

What do you feel I should have done differently?

If you want to continue the conversation then let me know; I see the name calling has started and I can't be bothered with all that unless you're genuinely interested and happy to progress the conversation.

If you’re buying a card on the MM and worried about it’s value dropping in a few months then you should have done your own research to be honest. I can’t imagine anyone buying a used 2080ti doesn’t know about the upcoming 3 series.

It’s not exploitative, at all.

Not really.

I'd rather read information about the new cards than have my morals questioned.

Its a problem driven by silly used electronics prices in the first place. Quite why someone would pay 80-90% of the as new price on a used item is beyond me. I wouldnt pay even 50% on something used.

You could argue that it is taking advantage of the less informed. As an example, insider trading... The trader uses their knowledge of the market to take advantage by selling before the price drops, leaving the buyer with a huge loss.

In the case of selling up on RTX 2000 cards now, I am sure no seller will be pointing out to a buyer that, if they wait a couple of months, the same card will likely be half the price, maybe even less, while they laugh all the way to next gen :P

Id consider it lack of research myself. For me, as i know how fast electronics moves forward, why is any used item worth more than 50% of its as new price. Its just not, yet people still pay it. Like i said its beyond me.

Well that was weird... looking forward to getting back to the usual arguing about how much Nvidia suck and why AMD suck more.

Lol, true.

Some people cant measure "at the wall" as they dont have the equipment (referencing an earlier post whereby if you dont have one you dont know how much your system draws).

What research is there to do, beyond loads of conjectured based on extrapolating rumours? This year is deffo a big hype train, and the only preparation I think we need to do is get the lube ready for the pricing it's gonna bring if the cards are any good.

Devrij didnt agree with me Dan...

@Phixsator

I accept underhand wasn't a great choice of term.

Exploitative? Is that more accurate?

Surely I've communicated the point? It's the act of knowingly selling something that will plummet in value soon afterwards, and doing so purely to make maximum financial return.

That's the buyers choice so make no one else's. The card is with what it's worth now period. It's like selling a car before the new model come out, everyone does it.

That's really what irks me about it. Nvidia gets massive criticism for pricing the way they do, which is clearly them pushing the consumer as far as they can milk. Then you get the retailers price gouging due to supply issue, again massive criticism when they do that. But somehow it's ok for us to do it to each other in the second hand market?

All three are examples of taking advantage, and they can all be "justified" with talk of economics, market conditions, supply/demand etc..

Personally, I have no interest in encouraging any of it. I won't facilitate companies trying to take advantage of me as a consumer, and I'd be a total hypocrite if I tried to capitalise on the second hand market as a seller.

I don't think you've done anything underhand. It's up to the buyer to have some awareness of what is happening in the market and the bigger picture. I understand Mr Diggler's position but I feel it's an unreasonable one given the item is hardly an essential. Selling a dodgy fridge or car to an unknowing young mum is one thing, this is something quite different and the card works etc too.

It's all down to the crazy over inflated prices of Gpus, I mean no one sells their 3900X and sticks an Athlon in 2 months before zen 3 releases.

Ultimately I sold the card for what it's worth NOW, not what it's potentially worth in a few months. Sold to a fully informed buyer who was aware of the new cards impending release.

Should I be annoyed that I essentially paid £400 to the person that bought my 2080 Ti for a 2070 Super that's value will also decline once the new cards come out?
