NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Wonder how many PC Gamers there are now compared to about 10 years ago

Don't know, but I'm guessing most don't own a lot a powerful rigs.

While such a card would be what everyone hopes for.

The problem is production and then R&D cost. Cost $120 alone for 11gb of vram on the 2080Ti.

Sure in several years we will have a card that matches that spec and cost but not anytime soon.

8GB should still be enough. Realistically a $399 would be great and much needed.

I would say its definitely declined. The new player base is consoles where most teenagers and twenties would have grown up on it. The even younger age bracket (under 12) like my kids all are glued to their mobile devices and unless exposed at school or parents wont even know what a 'PC' is.
I thought it would have increased with games like Fortnite and streamers bringing a lot of kids onto PC, who then get their parents to buy 2080tis :D

Plus the cooler was meant to be about $150 too for the 3080 that was leaked if you believe it.

Last time, we got "ray tracing" instead of meaningful performance increases at the various price points. I really hope they don't do the same crap with a fancy new cooler this time.

Not really because you can play fortnite on console and mobile phones. Why would you need a PC if they can do it?

This is the thing as the American's say. :) Once nvidia started that spiel, they arent going to drop it this time round. They will promote it as RTX v2 "same but better". This time round though people wont be fooled as they will look at prices over features. This is why nvidia need to take a rain check and deliver a fair price, as let's face it, we might root for the underdog in AMD but if they come up with a contender undercutting by a nice margin it could be a GPU train like the influx of people that went to Ryzen on CPU ditching intel.

You must be mad to spend over a 1000 on a new graphics card just but a PS5 or the new Xbox you can trade game in once you have completed them and get most of your money back unlike PC games which you are stuck with even if they are crap.

I think the fact Microsoft is going down the subscription path instead of game purchases and Sony is actively trying to eradicate physical copies of games with the PSN and a cheaper PS5 with no disc drive has passed you by it seems.

Are these consoles going to give us 4k@120Hz? I suspect not, which is why some people will pay the high price tag. The real dilemma must surely be at the £400/£500 price point which will be your 3070/3080 models.

Ori and Will of the wisps is getting ported from Xbox One to Series X and will run at 4k 120hz.

So, technically yes there are 4k 120hz games on next gen - but they are indie games and ports of last gen games.

I think PS5 games are going to be 60 quid their is rumours that they are going to be more expensive than current gen.

120hz is pointless using a controller anyway, you're not doing fast snappy movements like a mouse where you feel the smoothness immediately.

3070/3070ti will have to be a good chunk faster than the consoles to get me to buy, no point if they are in the same ballpark range as a console that comes with everything else, might aswell buy a ps5 and use that until GPUs are significantly faster in a few years.

I haven't played myself on a 120Hz screen, but it should be more than lower lag. The motion overall should be much more smoother than on 60fps, just like 60 is smoother than 30.

My 4K tv has a option for 120 Hz@ 1080 I’ve tried this and can’t see a difference between 60 and 120 eye sight must be going lol.

I recently got a 165hz 1440p Freesync 2 monitor for my partner and took the chance to do a comparison with my 4K monitor. I could feel the extra smoothness for sure, but I just can't seem to deal with the reduction in the image quality due to the lower resolution. I have had a 4K monitor for 6 years now and I am just too used to the better IQ to go back.

I could upgrade to a 144hz 4K monitor, but I do not see the point in that either, as my next monitor needs to be an 4K OLED, otherwise I am more than happy with what I got. Will likely upgrade to one of those in a year or so once they have a 40" version. In the meantime I can take my PC down and connect it to my G-Sync 120Hz OLED in the living room when I want. Still not done so, no point until I get a 3070 I figure :D

My sons play Fortnite they are 7 and 10 and they are very good at it. They have a lot of friends who also play fortnite on various consoles. I join in with them now and again and I often hear their friends comments that they wish they had a PC mainly because of keyboard/mouse but also that they "believe" after being fed on many Youtube videos that the PC is the best platform to play Fortnite on. These could be the PC owners of the future. You might turn around and say "yes but keyboard and mouse will be coming to a console soon". Thats as maybe but a console only owner wouldnt have a clue how to play with them and it wouldnt be long before they were back to controller. I think the only console owners who go K&M would be those who already have a PC. Most consoles are in the lounge - not very K&M friendly environment.

My two also play on mobile phone and Nintendo Switch but still prefer playing on the PC. One has a RTX 2060 and the other a GTX 1060 6gb. Both have 6 core machines.

If the game is crap you should know in less then 2 hours of play time and so can get a full refund on Steam. Which is far better then buying a crap game and then trying to trade it in for less money on a PS5/XBOX.

Why do you think I sometimes play with them and keep an eye on their friends list. They dont know their password, its got 2FA on and I use Microsoft Family to control their usage. You can use it to limit playing time, kick them off the computer remotely (even when I`m at work and they are at home) at a click of the mouse. Block websites see their usage stats. MS Family is probably the best free user friendly service they have ever created. I love it.

I`m probably in a minority of parents who actually fully control their kids screen time usage.

(I know you joshing btw)

sorry gone off topic. End.
