Here's my projection for the rest of the stack.

3060 = $349
3060ti = $449
3080 = $799
3080ti = $1099
3090 = $1499

You may well be right. But I think it would be taking the piscuit charging those prices.

My optimism stems from the fact that this time thet will have competition both from AMD and consoles, plus the fact they have apparently secured a good deal with Samsung. Oh and the die sizes will likely be smaller too.

Those are a lot of reasons imo not to be optimistic

Not like I am saying 3070 will be $329 like the 970 or $379 like the 1070 was

There is a 2080 super ti, but it's in the servers that deliver geforce now streaming service, not for us

I'm still surprised that it only took one GPU generation to erase so many people's memory on what price/performance looks like.

Nvidia will need to fleece consumers for many more GPU generations with logarithmic pricing before Turing is no longer the outlier is today.

Turing is currently an outlier in the history of generational performance increases at various price points.

It's like GPU consumers have the memory of goldfish or something.

Nvidia are blind to competition and believe they have none, thus will charge whatever they want regardless of anything else. This also applies to the deal from Samsung, it just gives Nvidia an opportunity to make higher margins, not reduce prices.

I don't blame you for being optimistic, I would hope that competition from the new consoles and, fingers crossed, AMD will force them to lower their prices. With any luck we will find out soon.

Why does everyone keep going on about "competition from new consoles"?

There's virtually no competition at all, you're either a console gamer or a PC gamer. The number of PC gamers who are suddenly going to look at the new GPU prices and junk their systems and games in favour of a console is miniscule.

I wont junk my PC but I wont be upgrading it if I feel the new GPU's dont offer value for money vs the new consoles. I have a feeling I will be getting a ps5 at the end of the year rather than a new GPU.

That's what put me off buying a 2070.

I bought a 1070 because it compared +/- to a 980Ti.

The 2070 should have (IMO) been equivalent to a 1080Ti.

Which is where Nvidia of course shifted the stack and prices, having to buy a 2080 to get 1080Ti performance.

Nvidia lost a sale from me for that, and possibly I will remain on the 1070 for the foreseeable.

It may be difficult to understand in the context of a hardware forum, but some people care more about playing the game and less about the hardware they use ro make it happen.

Of course but someone who's already invested a lot of money in a PC set up and the games to go with it is very unlikely to abandon all of that and purchase a new £500 console plus games just because the new generation of GPUs are a bit pricey.

I have saved some money up and would pay up to £650 but to be honest the games I play my 1080 holds up pretty well. But I am guessing the £650 would be 3070 level.

I agree, I won't buy a GPU or I'll wait for a deal. I'm not going to be forced into buying a console. 4k30 and using a controller does not appeal at all.

4K30? Pretty sure that's the PS4 Pro you're thinking off. By hook or by crook I thought it was 4K60 all the way for the PS5, using whatever checkboard type magic to do so.

I'm looking at Ampere for a better 4K60+ card but it won't stop me picking up a PS5 too, with the UHD Blu-ray drive.

I've never considered PC components an investment. Never. It is simply a hobby.

And twinz is right. The games I like to play in this hobby are more important then the hardware I choose to use

I don't have to "abandon" my PC. There's room on my desk for a console *and* a PC.

-And my monitor has multiple inputs too.

I don't believe that for a second. Of course they take competition into account. They may not show it, but they obviously do.

I am very optimistic they will have a few sku's that make them look very competitive. My bet is it will be 3070 will be one of them. They will of course price they Titan or whatever.
