NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

So why are people needing the new gen 3080ti’s or a ps5? Because gpus have been struggling to provide a consistent high level experience. Yes I can run 4K on my 980ti but I have to make a lot of adjustments for it to be playable.

Likewise, I feel ur pain and have avoided the ripoff option NVidia has tabled so far.

This 100%. In my experience, those 60+ develop a mindset where they refuse to acknowledge that their eyesight and hearing have decreased. Some refuse to get adequate corrective glasses, or hearing aides... Ages makes the majority stubborn and delusional.
It's also a generational thing.

Those of us still middle-aged or younger (I'm 40) are used the idea of augmenting yourself with glasses or hearing aids, and it's not only not a big deal, but you'd bend over backwards to find a device which could restore your sight/hearing (when the time comes). In other words, we embrace the idea that devices can help.

I've found some people of our parents gen are much more resistant to doing anything to improve their "natural" senses. I don't know why; it's something of a mindset perhaps mixed with some stubbornness in accepting the inevitable.

Me, when my hearing starts to go I'll be researching the best hearing aids and doing whatever I can to keep my hearing.

True, however I've seen in the past people hanging onto their cards whilst others poo poo'd them saying they need to sell now, it wont be worth much when the new cards hit etc.

New cards hit and they have either been too expensive, or not available due to low stock or disappointing performance wise and then the people who hang onto their cards sell them and get a decent return.

I have seen the same. If I remember correctly people were saying the 980Ti will be a £200 card, when the 1080 hit and many people actually sold them at that price.

Until the 1080 actually hit and it wasn’t all that much faster.

Why I tend to keep cards until after stock and once everything has settled. The price tends to come back to normality again then.

Also as it’s been pointed out numerous times. Steam hardware survey still has 1080p as the most used res. 4K is by no means mainstream. Yet.
To be honest even my 2080 struggled 4K60. Although I would be happy to compromise if all games supported DLSS.

So a friend has just got an EVGA 2080Ti FTW3 for a pretty decent price brand new. He needed a GPU and his reasoning was the Step-up programme offer. He saw it as a win-win. He got the most powerful card at the time of writing for cheaper than RRP, has signed up to the step-up programme and worst case scenario has a 30 day return period on it. Inspired decision or a waste of time do you think?

How much did he pay? That's kind of impotent.

I don't know the exact price - he was happy. I just thought, maybe hes been super clever. I recently sold my 2080Ti and a 5700XT is suffice. But if hes in the Step-up programme, as long as it releases in 90 days, hes basically got a free upgrade (minus tax) if price stay the same, whilst not sacraficing performance as I am currently.

Weird, my friend did the same thing, same exact card as well. He got it for 900.and plans to step up too or send it back

I used the step up to buy my 1080ti, this is the perfect time to do it.

Right now I don't think an informed buyer would be buying at all! Unless they were so informed that they knew the price/perf of the next gen cards and knew they could sell for more later!
+1

Pointless buying old 2000 series tech now. The new stuff will very much likely have much better RT performance and will also have HDMI 2.1. I would much rather have a 3070 than 2080$ or even 2080Ti.

This has probably be covered to death, but how long after Ampere launches can we expect custom cards? I've read anything from a week to a month on the Google, so a tad confused. Thinking of selling my 1080Ti next week and wait it out.
