NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Course I'm going to pre order both, protect myself against supply shortages

Lol youre as bad as the people panic buying toilet roll 6 months back.

By doing this you help to cause the supply shortages. And you dont even want the cards. Protect yourself? From what? Not gaming on the top card for a few weeks? Oh the horror.

What are you on about? Not sure you know how this works, maybe this is your first rodeo.

Course I'm going to pre order both, protect myself against supply shortages and give myself the time to decide.
If you can't see the heavy irony within your post then I'm not sure what else to say... you either get it or you don't.

And no, my very first rodeo was the 3DFX Voodoo back back in 1996. Ahh, good times. :)

I take it you can cancel the preorders quite easily then?

I did the same thing when the RTX 2080 was on pre-order, had a 1080ti at the time, once reviews hit the street, I quickly cancelled and held out for a used RTX 2080 ti at a bargain price... It was no problem to cancel my pre-order at the time.. I shall be edging my bets, ideally for me, I would hope that the RTX 3080 will be around 20 percent faster than my sold rtx 2080ti, but for around £749ish, that would make the purchase worthwhile, if the 3080 is just a uprated 2080ti with the same FPS but more ray tracing cores, then nah, I will stick with my bargain RTX 2080 purchase..

Good luck with the wait I waited weeks for my 2080ti then about 2 weeks after that I had to rma it but I hope they don’t have space invaders this time.

Likewise... good times! Fifa 97 looked amazing... I don't remember ever having seen such a step change in graphics improvements by buying a single component before or since that release!

Nobody has mentioned about any potential hardware issues, but my RTX 2080ti had to be sent back direct to MSI due to the space invaders , potential early adopter issues, can be the case with some AIB cards too, bad cooling etc on some cards, bios with no option / ability to change voltages too.

This is the world we live in unfortunately, happens every cycle and I remember with 1080 was certainly not a "few weeks" and resulted in a big increase in price if you waited.

I'd love if it were different, shame it isn't and already with reports of incredibly limited supply of 3090 this is the situation we find ourselves in. If you get all the other buyers around the global and scalpers to agree on buying equitette, I'm game.

Not entirely sure you understand how credit cards works. I get why you think there is irony, I'm not sure you get the difference between "buying" both cards and "Pre ordering" both on credit card at the point in which they go live until they ship.

If the prices are as expected, I'm out for this round. People can panic buy as many as they want for all I care. Just bear in mind you are just validating nvidia's price gouging and helping to turn this into a market for just the elite few who are prepared to pay £1k+ for a video card.

If this continues, the pc will no longer be a viable platform as there just won't be enough games sales to be worth the cost of developing. I can see a lot of people jumping ship to the new consoles over the next couple of years.

Yup, I imagine that few people on this forum know what it was like to really see the true birth of GPU's, going from completely unaccelerated to accellerated graphics, and instead all they know are games that have always looked pretty and surrounded by this more modern cycle of evolutionary GPU releases.

The entire 90's and early 2000's were truly amazing times for PC (and also I guess console) gaming, a collection of the best and most creative and original titles ever created and I feel privileged to have been a part of it at an age where I could still be considered wide-eyed and impressionable. Being the older, wiser and more jaded individual that I now am, few games have really given me the same sense of wonder and discovery since. :)

So they take the money out on dispatch with a debit card?

LOL... don't complain about pricing if you are going to pre-order BOTH cards without waiting to see what AMD brings. Yeesh.

TBF I am going to do the same. After the last few times where by the time the reviews are out and I decided I wanted one, all of the decent cheap cards were impossible to buy and had gone up £100+.

This way I have the pre order time and then have 14 days after it arrives to decide if its worth keeping or AMD deliver the goods.
