NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

No, no they aren't. They might have better graphics. But most modern games don't hold a flame to the games of the mid 90's to mid 00s.

That's not true. Even if you dont like the current AAA games there are indie games very similar to the 90's games you speak of that do everything better.

It's not simply rose-tinted glasses... if you do not know the many seminal games that were released during that time on PC's and consoles, games that were either created by or an inspiration to many of the greatest developers within the industry, then you do not know your gaming history, end of story, and nothing more needs to be said.

PS: Who said anything about affordable? I certainly didn't. It was a time when progression was so fast and so jarring that upgrades were far more regular and impactful and literally made the difference between playable and not playable.

Did even look to see i quoted both yourself and beany? Who said it was..... "affordable"

As for your reflection on the past. The advances over the last 10 years are just as profound. From the advances and accessibility in multiplayer gaming, VR or general GFX. You're romantising our era, kids will feel exactly the same way as we do about that era for theirs in 10/20 years time.

Literally just proved my point. It was better because the tech was advancing so much faster.

The advances then are different from the ones now, thats all.

Will agree to disagree as its not the thread :p Suffice to say I have been "gaming" since the ZX81 and would take most modern games over anything previously. Thats not to take away from the games at the time as I have enjoyed gaming immensely over the years however there is a lot of rose tinted glasses here, obligatory imo.

Graphics were crap but the pace of change and development was much quicker - you went from Doom to half life in the space of 5 years so new titles seemed more impactful.

Absolutely - and most critically you were the right age to be absorbing all that pace of change and getting pulled with it. Everyone values the things they grew up with in their teens the most, whether its gaming, tv, music. We were lucky in a sense to live through that period and we experienced something that probably wont happen the same way again (at least not till something revolutionary comes along). But the feeling you get when you think back to those times is one of nostalgia.

In all technical regards yes of course... however in terms of originality, story and narrative then often not. Modern pressures of development such as strict timelines and big budgets, mixed with epic corporate sharking and a distinct lack of ethics from big publishers have taken it's toll on the industry.

Just watch The Jimquisition if you want a more realistic and unsanitized reporting and reflection of the current state of the gaming industry. It's sometimes a tough watch. https://www.youtube.com/user/JimSterling

Somewhat agree but would still take modern gaming over anything I have played in the past 40 years. ;)

Jensen got them boys under the thumb lol. TBH if I had the cash I would bag one as well if the 3090 is as good as reports say.
Haha, yea, a long time ago.

I got the cash, but like most things I need to be able to justify it to then go ahead and enjoy. I can’t do that when you look at the opportunity cost involved. FloppyPoppy said it well earlier also.

If I knew for sure the 3090 would remain the top dog and not get price cuts until the 4090 is out I would pick it up and then sell it a few months before the 4090 is out taking a small hit. But I would not enjoy getting shafted taking a £500+ hit. Maybe later on in life once I have a few properties paid off and am financially free and living off the rent. Each to their own though :D

I have to admit i am chuckling at the people expressing anger at Nvidia potentially hiking prices again, some of them current 2xxx owners, with long *proud* history of purchasing high end Nvidia cards, this my friends is your chickens coming home to roost. Like Thanos, it was inevitable lol, keep validating Nvidias practices and eventually even you will be priced out of your toys..

Time to blame AMD again haha..

Early adopters are going to get bent over again as we all know Nvidia will undoubtedly release better versions in a few months, then there will be plenty of buyers remorse comments on here again... The circle continues and you only have yourselves to blame lol.

And you can bet your behind that these will be gouged as far as possible due to *Covid related supply issues*, i love an Nvidia release for these exact things, the angst in threads here is hilarious reading.

The ones i have a slight bit of sympathy for are the 2080ti owners who are potentially going to get some more unlubed love from Nvidia when they try to sell their overpriced Turing card against a tide of lower priced superior Ampere products.. That i guess is the cost for bleeding edge
Haha :D

Yup, I imagine that few people on this forum know what it was like to really see the true birth of GPU's, going from completely unaccelerated to accellerated graphics, and instead all they know are games that have always looked pretty and surrounded by this more modern cycle of evolutionary GPU releases.

The entire 90's and early 2000's were truly amazing times for PC (and also I guess console) gaming, a collection of the best and most creative and original titles ever created and I feel privileged to have been a part of it at an age where I could still be considered wide-eyed and impressionable. Being the older, wiser and more jaded individual that I now am, few games have really given me the same sense of wonder and discovery since. :)

Indeed. I always remember me and my mate buying Ultima Underworld and staying up 48 hours playing it to death and just being amazed by the whole thing!

What are your expectations on price yes I no they are saying 1400 for the 3090 but i just can’t see it tbh.
