NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

I'm kinda surprised how many people being critical before, and saying they would wait for AMD, are now saying they'll pre-order a 3080 or 3070 :p

Only took one vid from Jensen in his kitchen, eh? :p
TBF it is a really good price (relative to Turing:p). I reckon Nvidia has gone with the tactic i mentioned some months back. Price it cheap enough that it makes it hard to resist the temptation. Get as many people on board before AMD can make a move.

3070 2080ti performance in rasterization. I'll have some of that.

The amount of people "chuffed" that the top card is now £1500. Have I missed something? You've all been played! The top card 4 years ago was £799!! It's horrible price increases!

The 3080 and 3070 are actually a little better than I feared. Not too bad.

The slightly redeeming feature is the performance uplift tier on tier over previous generations. Prices still not amazing but at least you get something a bit more for your money.

I dontbget the point of the 3090 for about 99% of gamers. Until 8K displays become much more affordable and available, it’s just massive overkill.
Is there such a thing as overkill with GPUs? I've never seen or experienced it. Sounds a bit like having too much money or too many beautiful girlfriends.

There is so much marketing in it that makes it all look much better than it actually is.... as usual this has people in histerics wanting to buy them without even knowing how fast they are, because while these people think they know; we don't, we don't know anything...... Jens is the master at turning sceptics into sycophants.

As per reddit comment:

3090 is basically a Titan opened up to AIB designs. And about half as expensive as before. It's the definition of a "halo" product - an utterly unnecessary luxury item that almost no one will actually buy, but shows what can be done with current tech without compromising on price.

Question is, with all the nice new tech in the 3000 series, who will pay more than £469 (the price of a brand new 3070) for a second hand 2080Ti?

They are probably not directly comparable to Turing cores though. So it could be something like dual vector units being counted as two CUDA cores,or the cores have been depreciated,so there are more of them.

We will soon know,as when reviews drop, the uarch designs will also be released.

That’s what i was thinking to be fair well something along those lines. Will be watching reviews very closely before making a decision.
