NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Firstly you aren't allowed to mention competitors.
Secondly what you are suggesting is illegal.
Thirdly what you are suggesting is morally reprehensible.
Illegal?

No it truly isn't the quoted retailer have a 30 days no quibble returns policy.

I have literally done this with countless items. Expensive monitors, graphics cards, cameras, video cameras you name it. This said retailer allow this try before you buy policy for upto 30 days. Yes I've been a little cheeky sometimes and returned on the 29th day.

Its UK law under distance selling regulations that items bought online have a 14 day return policy, doesn't matter whether it's been used or opened, the quoted retailer just extend this to 30 days.

Try reading the consumer rights article on the retailer 'if for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase you can return within 30 days for a full refund", having tested some items for a few weeks I decided they weren't for me, or found them cheaper elsewhere when new stock arrived.

I'm still worried about the longevity of 10gb Vram, but will the 3090 actually be any quicker when the vram isn't being used.

My wallet wants the 2080ti - 3080 upgrade but my mind say's I'm asking for trouble, any-one else?

All I can say is that there's going to be a lot of early adopter 3080 buyers remorse going around in 6-9mths time when Nvidia release the 3080Ti with 20GB of VRAM...:p

Getting older really does teach you the value of 'Patience is a virtue'.

Nvidia gimping cards to release an updated version later? Nah, they would never do such a thing.

I have the same PSU, and also moving up to the 3080. Someone shared a PSU calculator link on Reddit, and I come out to around 580W if I upgraded. So fingers crossed, we’ll be OK :)

They put 750watt as recommended minimum to cover themselves for all the low-end PSU's, which in reality can't handle loads at 750w.

A top-end 650watt should be fine:)

I can understand why 2080ti owners are feeling a bit sour, the value of your card has just taken a huge whack.

A 2080 Ti will perform exactly the same today as it did yesterday and the same tomorrow or next week.

GPUs are tools, they are not investments.

As for me I don't have any 2080 Ti cards but I will be keeping my Turing cards as I will continue to get a lot of use out of them and they already have 24gb of VRAM.

I don't see a huge performance gulf between the 3090 and 3080 on paper like there is between the 3080 and 3070. Obviously, we will have to wait until independent benchmarks make their way out to confirm, but right now the 3080 looks like 90% of the 3090 for less than 50% of the price.

Sometimes its a good idea to use a far bigger PSU than you need as it runs cooler, quieter and uses less electricity.

Holy COW! I need a 1000w PSU for a 3700x and a 3080 then??

I dont think that the 3090 is gonna be a whole bunch quicker than the 3080 - that why there were no nvidia benchmarks in the presentation.

In order of being sensible I would
1) Wait for 3080ti as this is true replacement for ti models but MLID is saying a 20Gb version might not come out
2) Buy 3080 then sell on at some loss for 3080ti -
3) Bite the bullet and buy 3090

Thats so ridiculous though. Because you can easily just say at that time. "Oh stupid people buying now should wait for 4000 cards. oh patience is a virtue... blah blah blah".
No, the BEST time to buy a GPU in those terms are soon after it releases. i.e. NOW.

There's $50 difference between the 10xx and 30xx series at launch, not 150. I paid 629 for a 1080FE at launch, which is actually only 20 quid different.

I brought two for two systems builds I had done for £529 on release. So yeah it was deffo possible and certainly still shows the difference in price.

I don't think gimping is the right word :) but of course they'll have options for futher GPU's in future.I can see a 3090 minus some ram becoming a 3080 Ti later and if there's a full fat chip, maybe a 3090 Ti too, with a slight performance bump.

On power supplies, NV state the 3090 only requires a 750w supply.
