NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Just seen the EK have shown their waterblock for the 3080 & 3090, no confirmation about which specific cards it supports though

Alphacool had theirs ready for reference boards 6 days ago and are now working on none reference boards. Rumour has it every AIB that you can buy on opening day will be a reference board design so all waterblocks will fit. I hope so.

Right, so a £2,500 PC just to game at 1080p. That's normal.

Now that is useful info to know vs what @deuse posted.
Any clarifications and links that shows that nvidia do hamper with the CPU for gaming?

Also is it that thing they mentiones in the press release where the new 3000 series can now directly interact with the ssd nvme storage instead of going through the cpu ? Is this what you meant?

If so then they have already rectified this meaning less need for a cpu thats 0.00001 % faster then anythiing else(at 1080p/4k res)

From what I know now MS is intervening with their own approach and are trying to make it mandatory. However, Nvidia has never "followed" MS approach to GPU usage and have been using "shortcuts" for a decade now. However, here is an interesting read on why Hags is a thing.

Remember, the above link is still a work in progress. And it's unclear if Nvidia will follow MS with Ampere. As for the ssd nvme storage... we will have to wait and see how Nvidia developed it's use. Be it from AMD, MS or their own we simply don't know as of yet.

MSI people have just said their backplates for the 3 series are plastic and graphene.

"Almost" comparable to metal.

Yeh, no thanks.

The Zotac is looking even more favourable.

I have rated zotac for years now. Quality coolers and normally some of the best cooling plus 5 years warranty and no price gouging.

Well they enabled in a previous driver so they probably are gonna fully support it.

Has any one wondered about the thermals of the cards? noticed how most cards are of three fan design not to many two fan designs thinking the thermals on these new cards are going to be hot.

They arent really custom though are they? I will watch later after work but isnt every single card just a reference board with a different cooler on?

I don't see why it would be restricted to PCIe4 but it could certainly benefit a lot from it speed-wise.

Yea that's a question I am looking for an answer for. But how much faster is a PCIe3 vs PCIe4 NVME?
I would have thought the whole point of this technology is to get the most out of what is available and avoid the IO bottleneck.
I have a 970 Evo nvme which is fast. I cant imagine it's not 'fast enough'.
It might require a particular NVMe version which could exclude older drives, but that wouldn't necessarily be down to which PCIe version the drive uses.

I would like to upgrade to the 30 series, would there be any advantage going for the 3090 over the 3080 if I am using 7680 x 1440. I am trying to chase FPS in Asseto corsa competizione. Upgrading from an 5700xt which just does not cut it with this title.
