NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Any reason why people like going for the Founders Editions directly from Nvidia compared to the other models ?

I was initially, but the middle power connector has put me off, and besides, the Zotac Trinity 3080 has a better warranty, and looks to have the usual Zotac "built like a tank" quality.

Same price as well.

Given how much bigger the FE 3090 cooler system is, do people think it will be quiter than the FE 3080 if both are run at stock, no overclock?

Well they claimed 30c less than an rtx titan and are calling the heatsink a silencer so presumably it will be quieter.

Hasnt anyone done any benches on games like CoD, FS and the like?

Surely that would be the first thing to do?
(Unless I am missing something obvious here)

Yup, kind of like brand association. He should wear a green one. :D

I'd like to see a tour of his wardrobe, i remember one time on the Osborne's they showed inside Ozzy's and it had a massive rack full of leather trousers. Presumably Jensen has the same for Jackets. :p

Am I the only one skeptical of the FE cooler on the 3080? Compared to the big AIB models the fin stack area looks a lot smaller and the rear fan has to force the air through 90 degrees to exit. The front fan is also in pull configuration although the loss vs push should be quite small.

It has heatpipes as well, Seems to be a lot of surface area for cooling.

Have FE models ever cooled better than AIB cards? Has always been the case that the third party options do a better job in this regard, and the only reason to get an FE is if you're taking the cooler off and fitting a water block.

As a community here shouldn’t we know that if a GPU product is in short supply it is a red flag that something is amiss? That it’s possible that these new GPUs are a “short run” for what the nvidia may release later on! Yes, it’s speculating but it’s part of thinking ahead.

Is this not a repeat of the Turing release in some regards?

It’s a definite see what AMD do and go from there situation. I.e. no threat, carry on with what we’ve got. Threat, release better versions with more ram etc.

How can you tell the difference, at the time, between short supply and great demand?

It seems every GPU release comes with a 'short supply' tag, but aside from the usual distribution getting up to speed I don't think it's very often the case. Demand being high for a new generation card.. that I think is reasonable to assume.
