NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Thanks. Thats exactly the one thing holding me back from selling the RTX 2080 and buying a 3080 now.
If it will support 10-bit 4:4:4 RGB HDR 120hz, then it'll work with my CX and I can move forwards with the upgrade.

If it doesn't, then I'm not that excited and can potentially wait until they eventually do add that feature (there are so many 40gbps devices in the wild now that I feel its just a question of when Nvidia or AMD support it).

If NVIDIA will continue to lock 10-bit, then I'm perplexed given most HDMI 2.1 displays don't offer 12-bit capable bandwith outside of the C9 series OLEDs.

No worries, I'm in the same boat with the LG CX 48" model. Happy to wait a bit to ensure I get a GPU that fully supports this lovely display.

TBH this crying about memory is just that.

When I bought my RTX 2080 at launch, loads of users were crying about it then. Yet here I am, years later, and the 8GB VRAM has never held me back at all before.

I think the criticism on the ram front is fair. Remember the 1070 shipped with 8gb ram 4 years ago (!)

Also, i think the next gen console games/ports are likely to be vram hogs as is often the case.

In the past, i too have often found the arguments over RAM a bit silly (ie that people always thought you need more vram than you actually need), but i genuinely think it could be a concern here, especially for the 3070 which only has 8gb of standard gddr6 ram. I worry we could find that to be quite detrimental to the 3070's longevity.

Does anyone have any preference on which model they will be looking to buy.

I saw someone is very keen on the Zotec model.

But I don't know whether to just go for the founders edition.
Personally, as the FE is a new design, I'd wait for reviews. Custom cards, warranty is important to me as well as acoustics and not just performance.

3080 in either Zotac, EVGA or FE flavour. All size dependent for me as they will be behind a mesh panel so I can't see them, all will be within a few % of each other performance wise I'd imagine.

Founders cards look really nice, as usual the AIB ones look like a six year old has made them from Lego and sprinkled them in fairy lights, surely the board partners must realise it’s adults who buy these cards?

just don't get price gorged tbh, by all means pay more if you get more

the 5yr warranty from Zotac is worth something I'd say, as for superior cooling you'll have to wait for the reviews from reliable reviewers to see if their cooling is better but be aware they maybe cherry picked cards

My strategy is:

Buy 3090
Wear a smug face for the next 2 years knowing that it’s unlikely anything will be better
Skip 4000 series upgrade
Buy 5000 series top dog in 4 years

I’ll probably be looking at parenthood by the time the next gen comes out, so might not have time to be gaming anyway!!
If that is your strategy, you will likely not be to happy as there is a very high probably there will be a GA100 card released at some point in the next 6 months so you won't have the top dog for long. Better off getting a 3080 and a 4080 so will always have the latest tech rather than being lumbered with old tech just like those with a 2080Ti who are not upgrading. Will be cheaper to do also ;):D

I am only commenting because you used the word strategy by way, as to me buying a 3090 seems more YOLO than strategic :p

That's the point, the massive price gap between the 3080 and 3090. One card or two will definitely fill the gap, it's just when.

and its the when that is killing me. I dont want to get burnt like i did with the Titan and have the ti come out within a couple of months and I could have saved £300.

I am happy with a 3080ti no coming out until next June and getting a 3090 now and if I new that for sure I would get a 3090 but because I arent sure I am think of just going with a 3080 as with the money saved it will buy a replacement 3080ti when they arrive and give me change as well compared to a 3090.

The 3090 is priced just too much too dear for that 20% gain.

It should be sub £1200 IMO and I wouldnt be dithering so much.

Why no fps stats for the 3090 and no mentiona of a 3080Ti?

I would certinaly be interested to see the 3070 real world game benchmarks beating 2080Tis

No doubt the new AMD cards will do something similar to RTX IO.

This is a good sign. It means our games are going to get richer as the IO requirements are going to increase.
Yep. Got PCI-E 4.0, NVME Intel Optane and Samsung 1tb NVME, so I am ready :D

Because it likely is not much better than the 3080. One look at specs and one can see that anyway.

You got this all figured out!!!
Wish I could think like this, no surprises you are one smart cookie.

It's been the same for years though. You should either go 80 to 80 every series or ti to ti. Once you start mixing between the two then it gets expensive.

The RTX3080 has a very cut down GA102 die like the GTX780 had a very cut down GK110. If you look at the 80TI series they tended to have almost the fully enabled die and that is what the 90 series has.

I would expectd to see an RTX3080TI drop with less VRAM than the RTX3090,but the same core configuration. Lenovo even leaked an RTX3070TI. Even the RTX3090 is not fully enabled,so another variant which is fully enabled might come too. Remember there were two Pascal Titan X variants.

It was posted in this very thread, the lead software chap at id Software said for the next generation,8GB of VRAM would be entry level at under 4K!

Can you be more specific? How cut down is it? Based on the cuda counts the 3080 is 17% lower than 3090 (8704 vs 10496). That doesn't sound like a lot really.
