NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Yep. Got PCI-E 4.0, NVME Intel Optane and Samsung 1tb NVME, so I am ready :D

Because it likely is not much better than the 3080. One look at specs and one can see that anyway.
why is the 3090 so big and power hungry if it barely offers any performance improvements over the 3080?

My strategy is:

Buy 3090
Wear a smug face for the next 2 years knowing that it’s unlikely anything will be better
Skip 4000 series upgrade
Buy 5000 series top dog in 4 years

I’ll probably be looking at parenthood by the time the next gen comes out, so might not have time to be gaming anyway!!
It could blow up, pun intended, if AMD get back in the game. It's a big IF though :D

The RTX3080 has a very cut down GA102 die like the GTX780 had a very cut down GK110. If you look at the 80TI series they tended to have almost the fully enabled die and that is what the 90 series has.

I would expectd to see an RTX3080TI drop with less VRAM than the RTX3090,but the same core configuration. Lenovo even leaked an RTX3070TI. Even the RTX3090 is not fully enabled,so another variant which is fully enabled might come too. Remember there were two Pascal Titan X variants.

It was posted in this very thread, the lead software chap at id Software said for the next generation,8GB of VRAM would be entry level at under 4K!

There wasn't much between the titan x pascal vs titan Xp in gaming... about 5-10 fps in favour of the Xp

Can you be more specific? How cut down is it? Based on the cuda counts the 3080 is 17% lower than 3090 (8704 vs 10496). That doesn't sound like a lot really.

Look at the 80TI models historically - they have been around 5%~6% cut down in cores compared to the Titan, not nearly 20% cut down. GTX1080TI and RTX2080TI were very close to the Titan in core count. If you look at the GK110 it had 2880 cores. The GTX780 had 2304 cores or 20% less. The GTX780TI had all the cores enabled but had half the VRAM of the GTX Titan Black Edition.

So if you assume the RTX3090 is a rebranded Titan, the RTX3080 isn't a 80TI card going by relative core counts. Its closest analogue is the Kepler based GTX780,which was relatively soon pushed down the stack by the GTX780TI(less than 7 months).

Hence,if Lenovo already has leaked a RTX3070TI,expect a RTX3080TI to appear at some point. I suspect it will be an RTX3090 with 12GB of VRAM.

Imagine if we get a 16gb 3070Ti with 10% more performance as the 3080 but giving extra VRAM (same price), no 3080ti, but a 3090Ti that's nearly £2k - MIND'S BLOWN!!!!

You read it here first :)

Was going to answer you, but it seems someone already has.

You need to understand, that after a certain point the more you push for performance, the power required grows exponentially.

@Gibbo can i pre order already thanks, take my money before some used 2080ti folk get it
Don't think he has control over that. But one would hope you have control over yourself? :p:D

Is anyone currently using a vertical riser for their current card. I quite fancied the 3090FE but the airflow on the the new cooling would draw from the window side straight onto the MB. I could drop the riser and go horizontal I suppose and it would complement the 3 bottom intakes. Alternatively I guess I could go AIB, ideally an AIO to help drop the noise.
Interested in thoughts if you've got the same decision.

its only 30w more power and it uses the same die. 140% extra ram will account for that extra power alone. There is also a 18.6% more Shaders. Its going to be a far chunk faster for not much more power
