NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Once you go FE you never go back or was that something else. :p

That V cut out is going to let the rear of card (assume VRam is there) get good airflow and will not be as hot as the other end so not as bad as its going up and into the Air cooler.

Some of 3rd party ones seem to have a shroud covering part/most of one of their fans.

FE for me this time, first time going FE.

Had a titan x a few years back, only fe card I've ever owned. Build quality was amazing, makes most other third party cards feel like cheap cobbled together crap even if their coolers are far better.

All these brave people actually sharing their purchases with other halves. Like you're in a trusting and understanding relationship. Madness.

I was just thinking that!

I'd get crap for the constant small stream of Big Box games, and Warhammer 40K stuff for my collection. They'll never notice a 3090 box appearing, all about the same size! :D

My friend at work has purposely kept his old crappy case so his wife doesn't realise he's been upgrading.

My friend reckons we're all stupid for buying the 3090 @ £1399 as he reckons it'll be under £999 before we get to Christmas.. and we're the stupid ones :p

I bought the StarWars Titan card, does that count as a FE card?

The full fat console will have a GPU somewhat slower than the 3080 though, I think they've got the speed up to about 12TFLOPS for FP32 in that thing from a lot of common speculation, which is less than half the 29.77Tflops of the 3080. Even by that rough metric.

This is a trade off however. Console manufacturers can afford to sell the consoles at cost, or even at a loss because they make income from charging royalties for use of their platform. Those royalty costs are passed to consumers in the way of more expensive game titles, rumored to be standard £60 for next gen. Where as PC doesn't have this cost, leading to cheaper £40-50 AAA titles, and realistically much cheaper older titles when steam deals hit. All of this means it's a cheaper buy in with the one off cost for the hardware being cheap, but every game you buy being more expensive, this means you're bled those extra costs over the long run.

If you're a casual gamer who only ever buys a handful of games it's not actually that bad of a deal, you're probably a net loss to Sony/MS in that case, which is a cost they just eat. But most gamers will buy 10's or even 100's of games over the lifespan of a console and if you multiply that cost delta by the number of games you start to see that console gaming ends up more expensive. Let's say the cost delta is £10 per game, that's £100 for every 10 games, but you can get that cost delta up by buying smart, waiting on packs in steam, waiting on steam deals, buying through humble bundle etc.

Without going too much off topic this time round you can actually "rent" the Xbox console for £25 a month including an Xbox Game Pass which gives you access to the games. So over two years it would cost you £600 max if you didnt buy any games. Thats probably a similiar time to which some people keep a graphics card before upgrading.
