NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

So take away from Jayz video is you have to use the FE at stock. No changing the power cable (not that they would know) and tearing it apart to watercool, not such a good idea as you are likely to brake the card!

Just did some testing using SOTTR which is very heavy on memory usage.

Max settings 2160p.

Single RTX Titan memory used.

RTX On, DLSS Off.

Points to remember

3090 will not be able to run above settings unless it is using DLSS.

Less memory used when running DLSS which surprised me.

It's worth mentioning that for most of the hardware monitors they're only reporting what the game has reserved in vRAM, they are not listing real vRAM usage. For most games the game engine allocates a certain amount space in vRAM (typically an over estimate of what it needs) and then internally manages what that space is used for. Other than dev tools baked into game engines which give insight into internal vRAM usage the only other tool I'm aware of that will report on actual vRAM usage is Special K, it was recently removed from steam due to some drama but you can find downloads and discussion here https://discourse.differentk.fyi/

I'd be interested in what you get if you run Special K and compare memory usage. My bet is it's below 10Gb and actually more than likely close to or below 8Gb.

Lastly I'd be interested in actual frame rates at the settings you posted above that exceed 10Gb, the averages and minimums if possible.

If you buy direct from nvidia do they allow cooler removal or does it void the warranty?

Not sure, they don’t have any stickers on the screws so I’d imagine almost impossible to notice if you have stripped the card or not. But from experience they can be notoriously painful to take apart vs AIB cards.

Im quite tempted by the ftw3 from EVGA no ugly power connector placement and Waterblock warranty should I want to add it to my loop although wanting to go back to an air cooled GPU anyway.

That cooler looks like it would be a pain to take off, the screws seem to be covered by little tabs.

Thanks.

Thanks mate. Ive been looking at the FTW3 too, Ive also been looking at blocks and backplates, seems as though EK have bumped their prices since I last got my 1080Ti.

NP :).

Not so much worth it for me anymore. A lot of hassle to fit for next to nothing performance wise. And a big pain to strip down and test in another pc should an issue arise as well as risk of killing the card and the cost of a block. My pc is a distance away now so again noise isn’t much of an issue. When it was close the system was quiet bar the coil whine for me which I think blocks make worse so wanting to stick with an air cooled card now anyway.

The FE is growing on me, if the reviews show cooling to be adequate and does not sound loud, I am getting one rather than the Zotac.
