NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Not sure I need a new GPU now that POS G7 (QC wise) is gone but my Titan Xp (2017) will only depreciate in value (holds a little better than a 1080Ti though).

I may loose less selling now and buying a 3080 (hope for more VRam model soon) and then upgrading to ideal card whenever it arrives say 2022.

Sorry if I am generalizing too much, werent initial indications hovering around being 60-90% improvement?

I think that was against the 2080 not the 2080ti. Generally speaking, it seems like the 3080 has ~30% edge on the 2080ti, in reality we will only be certain when the embargo is lifted.

That would put it around 60% faster than a 2080.

My concern is that we first had DF reporting 65% to 90% over the 2080. Then we had four games showing circa 55% over the 2080. More recently, with have a few more leaks suggesting 45% to 55% (albeit against 2080S).

The trend is that the performance is falling slowly but surely as we move closer to release. If it turns out that the 3080 is 50% or below against the 2080, then I think I will likely hold out for the 3080 Ti or the Radeon 6000 series.

I was sceptical of the DF benchmarks on the 2nd September, and was brow-beaten by many for questioning it. The 16th will be very interesting...

Funny thing is CEX were pricing the 2080TI at 600 then 500, then it went below 400.
Now its back up to 515 ish.

As each day passes the price changes based on what available results are coming out for the 3080.

I have a feeling it will be more like 20-30% over a 2080ti in most games possibly even less than that with RT on as interestingly we haven't seen anything from nvidia showcasing the new raytracing yet.

Will be interesting if AMD can put out a 40% card under £800 as nvidia don't have much room to manoeuvre in terms of performance for a ti variant before they run into the 3090.

Says £361 for me to sell through CeX now for a 2080 Ti - and they ‘sell’ for £770 :D

You actually took DF seriously on that? Within the first minute he says Nvidia chosen titles, leave the video.

Read the whole post before commenting - I said I was sceptical of this when lots of people weren't.

They were paid nuff said. They also used a test that gimped the 2080 because it was 1.5gb short of vram.

Those tests were nothing but a sales pitch, far from reality. In fact every word uttered officially has been the same.

People accuse me of catastrophising. I don't. I am just a realist who's been smelling sales bs for 40 years. And it's only gotten worse. Buy reviews, pay to make bad ones of bad products vanish etc.

And, never ever panic as a new thing is about to launch. Cos what you get is never what you're being sold.
