Took at least 3 attempts to pay for the card as the basket page kept crashing.

Asus Strix 3090 OC
24th 14:24:00

GamersNexes ripped the 3090 FE card, but I like to make my own judgements and not worry about other people's opinions or even the current benchmarks.

Over the years I've watched VRAM requirements go up and up and I don't what there to be a point where 10GB might not be enough at 5120x1440 or above. I'll be keeping this card for at least 4 years so I want to future proof myself for at least that time period and not restrict myself to 10GB VRAM.

Coming from a STRIX 08G GTX 1080, I am Hopeful the 3090 is enough to drive my Odyssey G9.

Most of GN’s criticism is based on how it is marketed as an 8K card. And I think Steve was genuinely shocked that Linus had shilled so hard in that respect. Which is fine, if you want to game in 8K you need your head examined.

There are also conflicting reviews out there in terms of performance, with some, like GN’s reporting 5-10% improvements and one or two others reporting 20-30% at the only resolutions that matter (4K and ultrawide). So there is an element of the chip lottery going on there too I think.

JayzTwoCents got his review about right I think, pointing out the card runs cooler, with better silicon and a higher overclock and power ceiling that is yet to be properly exploited.

With its insane 480w power limit easily flipped on in the BIOS, the techpowerup review has the Strix averaging 23% better than the 3080 FE without overclocking either card. Overclocking adds another 3-4% on top. So 27% faster, according to them. GN also reported no improvement almost in frame rates for RDR2 over the 3080, where tchpowerup has the Strix pushing 25% more frames at 4K. In Metro Exodus, techpowerup has the Strix 3090 30% faster than the 3080FE at 4K with RT on. 30%!!!

One of the YouTube reviews shows a 0% difference between 3080 to 3090 in Gears 5 Ultra/4K, where techpowerup shows a clear 20% improvement. Techpowerup also shows, before overclocking, a 61% improvement on RDR2 in 4K/Ultra over the 2080ti. Bearing in mind SLI usually nets you average 80% usage across both CPUs, this is about the same performance as two 2080tis in SLI.

I think the takeaway is that owners of this card are going to get a lot more out of them than the 5-10% trolls who will never own one are going to keep repeating like sheep for the next couple of years. They won’t want to hear that we’re actually getting 20-30% more performance. This argument will literally occur every time the 3090 is mentioned anywhere. So screw it, I’ll just be happy with the extra performance I’m getting and not engage. Lol.

Yes I did wonder but at no stage did overclockers say it would come with the 3090. Hopefully as you say if they get more codes in they might ping them our way.

it should do if they get more codes. Every other retailer was selling the 3090 with games codes

Really hoping it will go through cause my 2070 Super is already on sale on Ebay, and I actually need them for work (machine learning engineer)

It could be November before you get it. I'd take it off eBay if I was you.

The 3090 Tuf only has 2x 8pin, will that be enough for a modest overclock? I see the strix with overclock profiles of 400W+ but i really think you hit diminishing returns there?

Look at the reviews on Techpowerup. They haven't reviewed the TUF yet, but the higher power limit is yielding 8-10% higher framerates than the Gigabyte Eagle OC prior to any additional overclocking. I would say that is not trivial.

I've just seen them thanks. It looks like the eagle is hitting power limits (375W i think is max 2x8pin + slot can deliver). Although you get diminishing returns. I suspect they overclock like ryzen 3000 (i.e. they are already pushed quite far from the factory and any significant gains can only go on well binned chips reserved for the likes of the strix)

Can I ask how this works? How do you change the power profile on the card or is it some sort of dual bios thing?
